ahhhh atobe reminds me of when konomi just said "this guy is really good at tennis" and we went along with it. I mean, hametsu e no rondo is a silly silly move but he didn't really rely on it (how many times did he use it vs. tezuka?) . as the series progressed, more and more characters just pulled move after move or weird states of mind and body (syncro, actualization, albino-hair mode) to be flashy.. and the matches just meant less. I miss the old matches like atobe vs. tezuka.

also: I agree on atobe being a jerk, he makes no excuses (the fans do that). and I love how atobe develops his heavy crush on tezuka in the middle of the match. SOMEONE is seethrough...

Personally, I don't think the matches mean less - as completely fucking ridiculous as the tennis is, I'm still hanging on every fucking point in the last round of Nationals - but they certainly were [ less infuriating / more emotionally moving ] when it was mostly tennis, with less ridiculous DBZ-style bullshit. And you're right - Hametsu e no Rondo is totally ridiculous, but Atobe didn't rely on it to win the match. He just played some good (albeit ruthless) fucking tennis, and he defeated Tezuka. He's an amazing player, tbh, and I do miss the old matches ( ... )

oh yeah, the matches still mean a count for the team to move forward... but it's just so... hard to take them seriously when bones are at risk. I think I used up all my suspension of disbelief with Tezuka's shoulder. I can buy that overexerting himself did that and it was plenty dramatic... but when people just.. keep getting injured, and using silly moves, I don't care. Compare Taka v. Kabaji with Taka v. Gin ( ... )

Yeeeeah, I didn't take Taka v. Gin seriously at all, but Taka v. Kabaji was plenty touching. I really do miss the old days; the awesome characters kept coming, but the tennis kinda jumped some sharks. (I swear there were actual sharks at some point.)

I love Atobe when he's done right - meaning in canon, mostly, and very little else. Somewhere along the line, I also learned to love fandom!Atobe, but he'll never quite compare. Fandom pairings tens to make me cringe, too - I love the Atobe/Tezuka vibe in canon, but it's never quite right in fandom. And don't get me started on things like Atobe/Jirou. (While I'll admit I ship it, I refuse to even look at the fandom for it anymore.) I came to love Kabaji/Atobe in time, too, when I came to love Kabaji ( ... )

I lol'd. ♥ Inui totally reads fanfics.

Not a present condition; Oishi said 'Tezuka's elbow was broken,' and smth about trying to hide it from them. I think it was a mistranslation, though.

And I never said Yamato was a creepy weirdo. XD; Just kind of a jerk, not letting Tezuka turn in his resignation until after he's run his hundred laps, and then guilting him into staying in the club using Oishi as leverage.

Atobe→Tezuka is about as canon as Oishi/Eiji. ;; Only vaguely questionable, in other words.

I have nothing to say except that I Will wave my Tezuka fangirl flag here in the middle of your Hyoutei. <3

You're allowed. ♥ Tezuka was the most beautiful thing about this arc.
