I know next to nothing about her canon (which doesn't mean much, given how "canon" works in the comics world, lolol), but I would LOVE to see an awesome Wonder Woman movie. CAN YOU IMAGINE?
Yeah, i've complained about that before too. Most prominent female superhero: ehhh, still no movie for you. You get a cancelled tv pilot. Congratulations.
There is a fairly recent direct-to-video animated movie that i've heard is good though! Been meaning to watch it for a while.
Not to say I wouldn't be happy to see anything (I never got much into American comics at all, but a Batgirl movie would also be AWESOME), of course, but... it's so dry out there. And then when they DO get relatively close to something for a change (i.e. the cancelled Pilot), it looks... kind of awful for some reason. WHY CAN NO ONE ADAPT THE AWESOME LADIES :(
Ugh, moviiiiiie. <3 Steve with his fabulous character construction and Peggy with her.....EVERYTHING and man I am nervous about Avengers but that teaser was a cool thing! Also I am pretty excited about Spider-Man + intrigued to see how they'll attempt and/or pull off a fresh take, since....like you said, they kinda set themselves back a little with the whole HOW DO WE NOT DO THIS THE EXACT SAME WAY baggage. We'll see, I guess? DEAR SUMMER 2012: HAPPEN SOONER
And man, that entire paragraph about the lack of lady superheroes with their own movies. Yeah. :( I don't even have anything of value to add; just that I read something on tumblr about how tiring it gets, and how it feels like we're being told that we can participate but it can never really be about US, and it was just the truest thing and it made me sad. :( Ugggggh Hollywood and society and everything ever :(((((((
I have no investment in the Avengers so i'm not nervous about it, i pretty much just want it to be cool! And for Loki to not be horrible. :( But i know that faith in Joss Whedon has plummeted, so... that's a thing.
It really is seeming like summer 2012 is gonna be RIDICULOUS. I hope so! I sure do like summer movie ridiculousness.
Yeah, lady superheroes. Yeah. It just gets to the point where it's like "well, why should i expect anything different?" and it's so defeating, to know that Hollywood/the comics industry/every male-dominated institution thinks there's no market for girl heroes and have given themselves no reason to change.
It probably felt like the Rocketeer at least in part because it was directed by the guy who directed the Rocketeer. :)
As far as female superhero movies go, yes, I'd like to see more of them, but more importantly, I'd like the few that do get made to not be awful. Yeah, I'm looking at you, Catwoman, Elektra, Aeon Flux, Ultraviolet, and Supergirl.
I'm not blaming their femaleness for their awfulness. I'm blaming the way Hollywood decides on these projects, in terms of casting, costuming, director choices, budget limits, marketing. A really shitty Wonder Woman movie would be worse than no Wonder Woman movie at all, IMO.

( ... )
I LOVE THIS POST. Since it's going to be while since I see it (cam versions, for once, I won't rue the day you appear via low-quality gifs on tumblr!) I'm feeling okay about reading about this film. I'm so glad it was good! I think it's really interesting how Marvel pulls out rather bleak trailers but then the movies end up being so delightful! I hope this trend continues because like you said Spider-Man isn't gritty! He's the most hilarious of all the superheroes--did these movie exces not watch his cartoon and all those amazing puns and that voice over of gold! PETER PARKER, HAD A ~EMO VOICEOVER BEFORE SCRUBS!
Back to the Cap! I can't wait to see it and see Peggy even though "i am still always acutely aware that it is not her story" and yes I always think about this and especially lately considering how many reboots are being talked about and Wonder Woman still doesn't have a movie. Super girl only has the one in the 80s that I think only I watched and where have all the Batgirls gone?
IT REALLY WAS SO GOOD. It was a lot like Thor in its levels of heartwarming delightfulness. I WISH YOU COULD SEE IT NOW, i can't believe how unfair it is that you're not getting it in theaters. :(
Yeah i really hope the Spidey trailer is misleading and it has actual humor. But eh, i guess the trailers always have to give the impression of SERIOUS BADASS ACTION rather than fun.
Watching Supergirl is one of my earliest movie memories; i was so into that movie when i was a really little kid and it makes me sad that there are little girls growing up today who don't have anything like that. Which is not to say girls can't like male superheroes, but it's different to be able to identify with the characters on-screen and i think that being able to see something of themselves is especially important with kids.

My alternate title for the movie was Peggy Carter Is Awesome, Featuring Captain America, Symbol of Freedom or Whatever.
