But MAAAAAAAAN, somehow the first scene of The Incident seems so much cooler if they aren't brothers. Pfffft.
Ha! Or...much cooler if they ARE?? I kind of love that they're twins.

The fact that MIB's body was discarded makes me wonder if Smokey is even MIB at all.
Yes! I don't know! Also, are we to assume that their mother was also Smokey and that's how she killed all those people?

This is another reason why i liked(?) the second half of the episode, because everything got even more dense and vague and all about evasive symbolism that almost CAN'T be taken literally even within the ridiculous context of Lost because, SERIOUSLY, WTF IS THIS SHIT. ~YOU HAVE TO PROTECT THE MAGICAL LIGHT THAT LIVES IN ALL OF US~
Ha ha ha ha. Yeah. Uh. Yeah. Show. What.

When Allison Janney met MIB in the pit where he was building the wheel, and they said goodbye and hugged, i thought for sure MIB was going to stab her. But instead she bashed his head against the wall! I was surprised. ............And then he stabbed her later.WE HAD THE EXACT SAME ( ... )

See, i didn't read that into it at all, but apparently a lot of people did! I got the impression that Smokey didn't exist (or at least not outside the cave) before MIB's body went into the light.

THERE'S NOT ENOUGH TIME. THEY SPENT AN HOUR ON THIS SHIT-AND BY THIS SHIT I MEAN, LIKE, ESSENTIALLY THE CRUX AND CONCEPT OF THE ENTIRE SERIES-AND IT STILL DIDN'T COME CLOSE TO ANSWERING ENOUGH.

YUUUUUUUUP. I just worry about the whole world reacting like "that's it???" when it's over. I dunno. I JUST WANT IT TO BE GOOD.

I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO DEAL. I TRULY DO NEED HUGS. ...AND BOOZE.

Oh, side note, i got the Avatar cd! THANKS DUDE.

i think their mother was Smokey. how else could she have killed the Others and burned down their village? and when MIB killed her, he became smokey without even knowing it. then when Jacob threw him into the light, that's when Smokey unleashed. idk.

i was SO SURE Jack and Kate would be Adam and Eve. WHAT A LETDOWN.

That is an interesting point! But i mean, she also had magical powers, so maybe she summoned a rocket launcher or some shit to destroy the Others. IIIIIIIDK

I'm not let down by the identity of Adam and Eve because i didn't really have a legit guess for them to begin with. It's just crazy that it was so out of left field as characters we NEVER would have guessed! I mean one of them was someone we'd never even seen before, wtf.

WHY IS TUNISIA THE EXIT

I've heard the theory that you just come out at whatever the antipodal point to the island is. Which would suck if it were ocean.

I had thought of that too! But if it moves the island each time, the exit would also be different each time... so it probably wouldn't be Tunisia twice (as we've seen with the polar bear skeleton and Ben), right? Unless the island doesn't actually move very far.

THIS IS WHAT I WAS THINKING OMG. My first thoughts were either: 1) MiB died going down the river and the Smoke Monster was released and just takes MiB's form and knows his memories with Jacob because it can scan people or 2) MiB was split when he went into the river and all his goodness stayed in the light and all his evil became the Smoke Monster. LOL THIS DOESN'T EVEN MAKE SENSE. I HATE/LOVE THIS SHOW.

Also, I think this episode could have been a LOT better if it had been spread out over flashbacks or something... Kinda like with Desmond's first flashbacks. And it would have been better if there was still another season left because it kind of scares me that we still got 50,000 more questions this close to the end of the series (nuuuuuuu!!!). I don't even know what the hell is happening anymooooooore. Everyone I watched this episode with was like 8| the whole time and then ??? during the commercials.

HMPH.

I also read a theory in ontd_lost where someone thought their Fake Mom was Smokey all along or something... Which I guess kind of makes sense (?!?) because according to Rousseau the smoke is a "security system"... To protect the island?! But now it wants to leave!? I DON'T KNOOOOOW.

Haha, i know right, all this shit sounds SO DUMB written out as we try to interpret it. But i like your Smokey options, they both make sense (you know, Lost's version of "sense"!)... unfortunately at this point it's an answer we're never going to get, because i'm pretty sure they're done explaining Smokey and Jacob.

Yes! Brief scenes in the midst of other current action are much more palatable than a whole episode of silly ancient times. (i also kind of thought this during Ab Aeterno.) ALSO, SPREAD OUT OVER TWO HOURS WOULD HAVE BEEN IDEAL. I JUST WANT MORE TIME.

I have to say I felt a little let down by this episode, mostly because of what you said...its SO CLOSE to the end and we spent a whole episode on back story of non-main characters! Like ok yes, it was important(? I'm still confused) but still. IDK. I liked that they were ancient Romans/Greeks/whatever just because...I'm a super huge fan of those times. Like I own the made for TV Cleopatra starring Leonor Varela (original Marta on Arrested Development, lol) Timothy Dalton & Billy Zane (I'm cool).

Anyway, I digress.

why did the magical CG light have to look so bad?YES THANK YOU. When they first showed it I kind of rolled my eyes and said "Are you shitting me? Why does it look so lame?" I guess I'm just disappointed that it really is something as obvious as protecting all that is light and good in the world. Or whatever. Anyway, way to make Smokey, Jacob. Not that I really understand what is going on there and if it really is MIB or what or ahhhhh head exploded. I feel like for every question they answer they raise another one. But ( ... )

Oh, also, does this mean Jacob built his enormous statue man? Although it appeared to date back to Ancient Egypt more than Ancient Rome/Greece because the Egyptians were big on the animal gods and the Latin-speaking population was more into human-shaped ones. I feel like that isn't even a ~mystery~ anymore, or at least one we shouldn't be caring about? Although it makes sense because one would assume he had a shit ton of time on his hands.

I'm also starting to think more that MIB is dead and Smokey is just taking his form. Because the wine or whatever is what makes Jacob/Richard not age, yes? And MIB never drank it (did he?) but he never ages. So I'm assuming that's because he's dead?

HAHA i almost included my thoughts in this post that Jacob built the statue himself over hundreds of years just because he was bored and wanted a badass house on the beach. I suppose it's probably most likely that it was built by whoever built the temple, so, Jacob's followers i guess. It's not something they need to waste time spelling out, though. (although we haven't exactly gotten a real conclusion to temple shenanigans, or why Dogen was introduced this season.)

Because the wine or whatever is what makes Jacob/Richard not age, yes? And MIB never drank it (did he?) but he never ages.

Hmm, i didn't think of it being just the wine. I thought the wine just sealed the deal for the magical powers being invoked. So the protector of the island a) lives forever (until they tap a replacement) and b) has magical powers to make other shit happen, like making other people live forever. And obviously the smoke monster would be immortal cause he's a smoke monster.

ALL OF LOST'S SPECIAL EFFECTS ARE DISAPPOINTINGLY LAME. Well, maybe not all of them. But almost all of them. Blerg.

We still don't really know why he's not allowed to leave...maybe Smokey is the opposite of the ~light~?

Actually i think they explained it pretty well in Ab Aeterno. The smoke monster is evil and if that gets out into the world then everybody is fucked (even though... evil already exists in the world? idk.) I've seen a lot of people saying this is basically a Pandora's Box kind of thing, and the description of Pandora here sounds exactly like Jacob and MIB's mother. !!!

AND REMEMBER HOW PHASE ONE WAS ON AFTER THE SUPERBOWL? AT LIKE 1AM?OH YES I DO. My home team won the Super Bowl and then Alias broke my brain. That was my first year of college! I had a couple friends over to watch it with me (lol when it was on at 1AM) and we were all freaking the hell out, it was good times. And then i had to go to classes ( ... )
