Keenser had been surprised when Lieutenant Uhura had asked him to come to the Communications Department, but he figured since he was the only member of his home planet on the Enterprise that it made sense for him to help recreate the language files. He'd been noticing the random disappearances of files, and items, but hadn't been able to find anything one way of the other. He hadn't told Scotty, but he'd even stayed hidden in Engineering one night to see if he could catch whoever, or whatever, it was that was messing with things, but nothing had happened. It had disheartened him, but Keenser planned on trying to figure out what was going wrong with things eventually, even if he had to spend a few more nights in engineering to accomplish it

Nyota frowned as she looked through one of the lines of code. It was frustrating that the disappearing files and computer glitches didn’t seem to have one point of origin. It was as if the incidents were all unrelated, but they simply couldn’t be. The more she looked at it, however, the more she was almost certain that this wasn’t simply an error with the computer. Someone caused this, she thought. Or did they? Was she just being paranoid? Maybe she really had been working too much? She shook her head and glanced around the room, but didn’t see any sign of Lieutenant Keenser. I thought he was going to arrive about now, but I’m sure it’ll be soon. She shook her head and re-focused on the lines of code. This is extremely concerning, but I need to clear my head and then re-examine these to make sure. She sighed and switched over to the language files, frowning as she saw the empty Elgemese file. It's really a pity I don't know the language...
Keenser waited for the Lieutenant to notice him, his brow furrowing the longer he stood there with no acknowledgment from the other woman. It was when she finally looked up and completely missed him that he realized that she must not be able to see him over the desk. Glaring at the risers that some desks seemed to be placed upon he moved around the other side of the desk and came up to the Lieutenant's side, tapping her on her shoulder.
Normally, if it were Scotty, he would've smacked the engineer, but he figured that not many people would take kindly to those types of measures. He figured a tap on the shoulder was better then anything else he could've done, and waited to see what she wanted him to do for her. He'd never really met someone who was interested in his language, so few of his kind ever venturing from his planet, that not many knew about it, or cared.
Nyota was so deep in thought that the tap on her shoulder startled her. She jerked slightly and then turned to see... no one. What the hell? And then she realized that Keenser was standing next to her, just a little below her field of vision. "Ah, Lieutenant Keenser," she said, feeling slightly embarrassed both that she hadn't noticed him and that she was so startled. How long was he standing there? "I'm sorry," she said. "I startle easily."
Okay, let's move past that. She smiled. "Thank you for coming. It seems that the shipwide malfunctions have somehow completely erased some of the language files, including the file on Elgemese. I have only very limited exposure to the language, so I was hoping that you could help me rebuild it." She probably sounded a little more excited than was appropriate given the problems the Enterprise was having, but the idea of getting to learn about a language - and hopefully a culture - that she knew nothing about was something she couldn't help but be enthusiastic about. It was the whole
