Hikaru was sitting in his helmsman chair, bent over a PADD that he had been scrolling through for hours. Not that he wasn't thankful for the fancy new equipment they received during the refit, but after staring at menu after menu and reading about features he knew he'd never use, except maybe during a parade ("Sparkle Exhaust"?), he almost wished he had his trusty old system back. He had tossed the PADD aside and was rubbing his temples when heard a familiar voice greet him by name. It was just the refreshing he needed.
"Oh, Miss DiFalco! Good evening!" he exclaimed with relief after he turned to face her. He stood to offer her his chair. He had been sitting far too long anyway. "How are you?"
She smiled brightly at him, it definitely was great to see old friends again. It had only been a few months, but there was something comfortable in seeing familiar faces on a routine basis once again. She was curious to know how the bridge did during this the recent attack and maybe hoped to learn a few secrets from the chief helmsman, but also wasn't sure if it was too soon to ask such a thing.
She couldn't help to give him a quick hug before sitting down in his chair. "How kind of you to keep it warm for me." She teased. "Things have been a little crazy, but really, I'm well. Did you enjoy shore leave? You and Mr. Chekov always seem to find trouble wherever you go."
A hug! Hikaru wasn't expecting that, but he was never one to refuse a hug, so he gladly returned it. He took a seat next to her in the navigator's chair, and replied with exaggerated seriousness, "Yes, and now I'll warm up this one for Chekov. Part of my duties as chief helmsman, you know."
"You heard about that, huh?" he replied sheepishly as he juggled PADDs, "Yeah, for a couple of nerds, we sure know where to find the trouble...but other than that business, sure, I guess I did enjoy my shore leave!" He decided to leave it at that and not gush about plants. "How's Earth these days?"
Mars chuckled at Hikaru's joke as she started to glance over the controls. "I only heard about it through passing. I say passing, as really judging by what you wrote on your journal, I can only assume you were up to no good. I don't even want to know what crazy things you taught that poor boy."
She started laughing at what looked like a very defiant protest. "I'm kidding, Mr. Sulu! Mr. Chekov really looks up to you, and it's good you're hanging out with him." Focusing back on the console, she tried punching in a few commands.
Frowning, she tried again to no avail. "Um... did they change things up that much after I left? Surely not piloting for 2 months would not make me this rusty."
