The Third Seasonal Big Damn Prompt Table!
We're doing something a little different this round, and we hope it'll get those creative juices flowing! This is a full-fandom challenge, meaning that the prompts are open to the writers, the artists, the vidders... and any other side of the fandom we've forgotten. All pairings, genres, characters, etc. -- You name it, it's here!
THE RULES
- As this is a Tin Man community, all responses should be set in the Tin Man 'verse. Just sayin'... Granted, the main characters don't have to play a major role, but there needs to at least be a reference to a person or event features in the miniseries. Past, present, future... it's up to you.
- The deadline for this challenge is JULY 17, 2010. That's four months from today. So, clearly, you've got plenty of time.
- There is no minimum requirement for participation. Complete one task or twelve. It's all up to you and your muse, really.
- You may fill the prompts any way you choose, so long as the entries were started AFTER this post. This means that icons you make tomorrow are eligible, but that WiP you've been working on since February of 2008 is not. Similarly, a crossover of drabble-length can count as your entry for crossover and drabble. However, once you've got a point for drabble (and/or crossover), you can't write another and get another point. Shiny?
ADDENDUM: While the WiP is not eligible, a NEW tale from that same 'verse is. Chapter 7 is a NO, but a 'deleted scene' from three annuals prior is fine.
- If you'd like to team up with someone to complete a task (round robin a fanfic; one making the fanmix and one making the cover; etc.), that's FANTASTIC! Just make sure that everyone who participates is listed, so that points can be awarded appropriately.
- You may use work created for a separate challenge as your entry (
comment_fic,
prompt_in_a_box, etc.). Again, these entries MUST be after the timestamp on this post.
- All entries must be clearly marked as entries (Subject, header, etc.) for this challenge so that we can keep track for the points. ONE task = ONE point; FIVE tasks = ONE point; TEN tasks = ONE point; All FIFTEEN tasks = FIVE points.
- [IMPORTANT] Make sure that you follow ALL other communities' rules when cross-posting your challenge responses. Every comm has different requirements for posting, from headers, image size limits, tagging procedures, etc. We don't like bringing down the mod mallet, the other mods probably don't either. *stares* Shiny? See
THIS post for more information
- As with the previous BDPTs, prizes will be awarded at the end in the form of a shiny banner and bragging rights.
THE TASKS
♥ DRABBLE - 100 words or ONE (1) icon. It's that simple...
♥ SMALL - 250-1000 words or THREE (3) icons. aka a basic
tm_challenge entry...
♥ MEDIUM - 2000-3500 words or ONE (1) banner or TWENTY (20) icons. It's a little bigger...
♥ BIG - 5000-8000 words or THREE (3) banners or FIFTY (50) icons. Are you sensing a pattern here?
♥ EPIC - 10000+ words or FIVE (5) banners or ONE HUNDRED (100) icons. Like anyone can write that many words... *shifty eyes*
♥ AU - Take everything you know about our characters and drop them into someplace completely different. On a spaceship, the Middle Ages, underwater... *cough
Topeka* The music may change, but the story stays the same...
♥ WHAT IF? - Whereas an AU is a physical change of scenery or location, ask yourself: "What if this happened instead?"; "What if they had gone here instead of there?"; "What if [fill in the blank]...?" This changes the outcome of the tale, as we know it.
♥ CROSSOVER - This is where you get to mix your favorite fandom (aka Tin Man) with your other favorite fandom. Bring someone to the Zone; send the Longcoats to another locale on their search for the emerald. And so on...
♥ DELETED SCENE - This is your chance to fill that plothole that's been bugging you since December 2007. Or tell us what was happening in one part of the Zone, while our focus was on another. For example: How exactly did the Resistance get that zip line up in the first place?
♥ GIFT - Write a fanfic, make an icon or a graphic, a fanmix, a fanvideo. Answer a
lonely prompt at
comment_fic, or the
answered prompts... or check out last year's
demilos_wagon requests. [If you'd like to see a request post, similar to the
White Rabbit Wednesdays posts at
new_wonderland, we'll be happy to set one up.]
♥ COMMENTARY - Write up a commentary of your own work. Be serious or snarky. Dissect a specific scene in the miniseries - tell us why you love it or why you loathe it - or make a post about the jigsaw makeup on that one guy's head inside the Twister... Anything meta- or discussion-like will do. Check
tinman_meta for examples of things that have been ripped to shredsdiscussed in the past, if you're not sure.
♥ REC - Recommend a maximum of FIVE (5) somethings to us. Fanfiction, a fanvid, a piece of fanart that you think completely captures everything about Tin Man. Tell us why you love it.
thegraygale is lonely, people! [Again, keep in mind the posting rules of other communities. For example,
thegraygale is only for fanfic.]
♥ MUSIC - Create a fanmix, of at least EIGHT (8) songs, write a songfic, make a fanvid... if you have the skills, write a song.
♥ PICSPAM - You have all those screencaps from your favorite scene, 'ship or character; the filming locations of Greater Vancouver; MST3K a scene; make macros or a motivational poster. Really, anything goes. We only asking ONE (1) thing of you: Be respectful of those on dial-up and use an LJ-cut. Also, for the not-so-serious side:
loltinman [*repeats that posting rules part again*]
♥ REMIX - The most challenging of the prompts is saved for last, simply because it's really not as easy as it sounds. The basic idea behind a remix is to take someone else's fanfic/fanart and redo it in your own style, while keeping the plot, characters, setting and timeframe IN TACT. We cannot stress enough how important it is that you must have the author or artist's permission before you attempt this task.
[We're working on another option for the last square, so that those who want to try and complete the challenge without the remix still can. Bear with us...]
Hopefully, this is as "general" a prompt challenge as is humanly possible. That isn't to say that there won't be something that trips you up. If there's even a sliver of confusion on your end, please ask. We've all done at least one of these prompts, and folks are most likely quite happy to offer links or support.
THE CHECKLIST
As a way to help you keep track of your entries, we (and, by "we", we mean
oddsbobs) created a sort of bingo card for you.
The HTML is even ready for you:

Once you've completed a task, you can cross it off with one of these handy marks:
Simply replace the " < !-- small DONE -- > " part of your table code with this:
http://i654.photobucket.com/albums/uu265/tmcmods/x.gif" width="60" height="60" border="0" />
And replace the " < !-- INSERT URL HERE -- > " part of that code with a link to your response entry! It should look something like this:
If you're using this table, please post it to your LJ and comment here with the URL so we can keep track for the points! ;)
THE TEAM COMMS
#1 Team participation is NOT required. We just have this kind of free time and thought it might be a fun way to bring the fandom together.
#2 There are
RULES. You know us, we're pretty laid-back. But that doesn't mean we won't pull out the mod mallet, if needed. Play nice. And, if we have to pick ONE (1) rule to be followed, it will be #1.
#3 Did you read the
RULES? Then please go
