[early Christmas gift for Tm_rogue]

It's warm, where they are. Warmer than Siberia, but then again, where isn't it warmer than Siberia?

The Brotherhood is wintering off the coast of Texas, in the Gulf of Mexico. It's warm enough that the windows are open and Erik can feel the breeze on his face. The roar of the ocean is a soft, constant sound in the background. Earlier, Erik and Rogue had gone for a walk, and he'd been wearing short-sleeves and had been barefoot.

Tomorrow is Christmas. He will have gifts for his daughters, his son, his lover, and his soldiers--his family. This is not, religiously, his holiday. Erik believes that mutants are destined to achieve superiority, and he thinks that it will be important to keep the best of the old traditions while establishing their own. And he approves of holidays that promote family, brotherhood.

Tonight, though, he goes into the bedroom he shares with Anna and leaves a simple gift on the bed. He has other things for her, of course, but this has nothing to do with Christmas, strictly speaking.

The gift is simple, and consists of one red rose, upon which is affixed a necklace of delicate metal with a ruby worked into the center. It is intricate and beautiful and made of titanium. There is a design to the necklace that matches a certain bracelet, of which Anna is very fond, and Erik spent several weeks shaping the metal into just the right configuration.

The note is very concise. It reads;

Happy Anniversary, Anna. Love, Erik.

He was nearly certain that she thought he would forget, but he remembers dates, anniversaries, milestones. And this one, to him, is very important. He would tell her that, but he has never been good at flowery language. He hopes that the sentiment is clear.
