After reading Pyro's
statement about the people he'd killed, Magneto had a feeling he was missing something. He sent the summons that his lieutenant meet him in his office at once, and paced back and forth, thinking as he waited for Pyro to comply.
Rogue had told him that Pyro had not been himself lately. Erik had noticed. He had wondered if something had happened with Pyro's romance with Doug, but that hadn't appeared to be so. The two had spent time together lately, and Magneto had chalked Pyro's slight sullenness up to the fact they were now apart.
Apparently, something else was going on. Erik intended to find out what it was. He valued Pyro as a member of the Brotherhood and treated him as a trusted lieutenant, but he also cared for the young man and wanted to know what was wrong. Rogue is so much better at this than I am, he thought ruefully. If it's relationship angst, I wonder if it's cheating to send Pyro to her?
No. He understood what it was like to date someone "on the other side", for lack of a better term. Erik knew the hardships that went along with it, and remembered very well how relieved he had been when Rogue had finally joined him. He could certainly relate to that. And if Pyro was suffering guilt over his alleged crime against the humans who had harmed the man Pyro loved--well, Erik knew all about that, too. He could help Pyro. He would help Pyro.
Erik made sure he was standing when the knock came, behind his desk, hands clasped behind his back. His expression was completely calm, remote. "Come in," he called, in his general's voice, and waited for his soldier to comply.
