Honestly, I have such stupid good luck. For as many times as I lose things in my day-to-day life - keys, books, gadgets, cash, etc. - I'm usually able to recover them.

Yay for recovering lost things! The relief of finding them again almost makes up for the anxiety of looking for them --- well, almost anyhow. I think I would've tried periodically calling your cell phone with someone else's phone while you were retracing your steps in hopes that you would hear your phone ringing.
