Sherlock: "His Last Vow"

It’s taken a while to write this up, because, man, so much shit was going down in this episode, and it took me days to put this together. I also got constantly distracted by the urge and enjoyment of photoshopping Sherlock screencaps into quote collages. But here it finally is, my “His Last Vow” review/recap.

you asked for my opinion?, i watch too much tv, tv: sherlock, i'm a total geek, useless ponderings are useless

John is the one with money problems, Sherlock was always very careless when it came to his finances.

I wonder...how do you now see the first two episodes? I am really glad that I waited and opted to write a review about the whole series.

The point with the Agra treasure is that Watson and Mary can only be together if it doesn't exist, because otherwise, Watson would be not a suitable match for her. They adapted this point beautifully.

My money is still on Moran - well, at least that's what I hope.

(no the brother in canon is not a twin...but he shares exactly the same name "James Moriarty" - he is only mentioned once, at the start of The Final Problem, as having tried to defend his brothers honour)

Hm, I think in the first episode they mention that Sherlock wants to share his flat with someone so he can save on the rent. Or do I remember this wrong?

And thanks for pointing out the twin thing. I'm almost sure someone said he has a twin, but I believe you, so I've changed that in my review now.

How do I now see the other two episodes? Not much differently, I must say. Still loved them both, and still like the middle one least.

He said "together we should be able to afford it" but he also goes ahead and moves in before John has given his okay, so I guess it is less a matter of not having the money at all and more a matter of preferring to spend it on other stuff like Cab fares and his experiments. When John is out of money, Sherlock just gives him his credit card. He shows no interest in Sebastian's check. and is totally unconcerned when Mrs. Hudson puts the damaged wall on his rent. It really doesn't look like Sherlock is hard on money (this is pretty consistent with canon, too, btw, because there Holmes pays his landlady so much money over the years that he could have bought the property three times over)

Perhaps he sold the diamond cuff links for the ring.

Thanks for this interesting and in depth review. I loved this episode and want to watch it again. It really ripped my heart out in so many different ways. I loved it.

I have to say I am not certain it is Moriarty at the end. I mean it doesn't make much sense to me, but whatever - I can't wait to see what they do next.

Happy to please, and, yes, Sherlock has a way of ripping your heart out. But I think that's what we all love about it. Love/hate relationship, eh?

I haven't formed a clear opinion about Moriarty, but I think right now tend to lean towards believing that it is Moriarty. I mean, come on. He was too good a villain to get rid of after just two seasons.

This, however, I'm sure of: They will definitely surprise us in series 4 -- whatever it will turn out to be.

can't wait for S4 to begin now..can we ?? sherlocked01 January 23 2014, 07:21:56 UTC
Wow… You actually wrote everything i thought on the episode and more…so what can i say other than ..THANK You !! :-) and the peeing in jar for mass spectrometry was useful info..so thanks again..though titrations and pipetting remind me of chemistry practical exams…there was one where a beautiful brown ring would be formed in the test tube with the chemical reaction of whatever we were doing and you didn't want to titrate it further cause at one point ..one drop and it would disappear…making me sigh…that was the point required to be noted for the experiment of course but i wished the brown ring could somehow come out of the test tube… ha ha ( ... )

Ohhhh… and i forgot to mention the John- Mary chemistry… It was so…how do i put it ??.. Natural..i mean for the fact that the real life couple, martin-Amanda has spent 13 or so years together its so heartening to see them have the same kind of chemistry on screen…i loved the christmas re-union and the part where John says " but that does not mean i am not pissed off" …so cute… ( i think in a way i see my hubby in there… he can be kind of angry and gentle at the same time..in a similar manner)
