NARUTO FICPOST. YOU ARE FOREWARNED. NO BITCHING.

Nov 17, 2009 06:57

This is my entry for Word Challenge #3 at the kakasaku lj community.

I'm not sure if I'm going to post it on ff.net, yet, so it's going here for now.

The prompt was "beaches". Restriction 800-1000 words. Constructive criticism welcomed. You actually don't have to be up-to-date with Naruto to follow this.

Giving some love to the story on this end.

Holy cow, talk about depressing. The contrast between Sakura's memories and the current moment was so striking, and I could see it so clearly. I like Team Seven fic and I wish it was a character option on ff.net.

And I read your post that said your doing a sort of cross between The Wasteland and Kakasaku. My sympathies. Nanowrimo is hard enough and then you are tossing in something that is so convoluted. 8O

I'm writing a Harry Potter crossover that contains aspects of The Wasteland and Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon. It sounds rather idiotic when I describe it that way, but I make no apologies. :D I'll keep my eyes peeled out for your story if it ever gets finished.

Thanks! Even though the word restriction limited the amount of description I could do, I really wanted the imagery to be clear, especially the contrast, so I'm glad it came through. (And I wish there was a Team 7 character listing, too!!)

Dude, I'm so happy you understand about The Waste Land. It really is a difficult piece of literature, but oh, I love it so. My story (tentatively titled The Waste Land ... ooh, creative) will definitely BE finished and eventually out for the public to read, just probably not during November. haha

And for the record, I'd read the shit out of that HP corssover!

The HP story is crossover with The Sandman comics by Neil Gaiman ( ... )

Oh, okay. I've heard of Sandman but never read it. I'll get around to it ... one of these days. When I do, I'll give your story a whirl (if you want me to).

And yes, I'm ALL for challenging the mind with fanfiction!!!

As for where I'm going with TWS, it's a mix. Generally, I'm lifting the themes and chapter titles/epigraphs from there, but I will take direct inspiration from certain scenes, though they will be no means be exactly as they appear in the poem. I just did my first such scene, actually, based off of the Madame Sorostris section. It was ... interesting, to say the least. When the story is ready for public consumption, I'll be extremely interested to see your take on it, as a lover of both kakasaku and Eliot.

I'm truly honoured to have inspired you. Yay for literature + Naruto! :]

I actually think fanfiction is a great venue for such mixing because you don't have to worry about borrowing v. originality issues and copyrights.

I really liked this. the contrast of the happy memory with the sadness of honoring the dead is powerful, and the moment I realized what was happening, it just hit me in the gut (but in a good way!).

(and after skimming the comments above, I'm just gonna repeat the encouragement to read the Sandman comics. they're brilliant. ♥)

Thanks! That "hit in the gut in a good way" feeling is exactly what I want basically all of my writing to induce. I fondly call them "skull shits".

Out of curiosity, what exactly WAS the moment you realised what was happening?

when I reached this line, 'Sakura dipped her fingers into the open container...' it snapped into place for me, and I just went, "oooooh. /sadface"

Thanks. Small details like that really help me out, as an author. :]
