I don't know. I'm pretty sure I know why you're ranting and if that is the case, then I feel almost the exact opposite of how you do. The line was crossed the moment people started to post requests based off the Sandusky abuse scandal where children were raped and when real children were named as desired participants. The same stories would be fine if they didn't involve real kids or were based off of the suffering of real kids, and I'd agree with you firmly if that were the case
( ... )
I view it in the same light as I view the American First Amendment protecting disrespectful assholes like Westboro Baptist Church. My initial response is "What the fuck?" My secondary and third responses are rarely better. However, that same thing protects Landover Baptist, which I think is hilarious and I know many groups are trying to shut down.
Do I think they're in the right? Fuck, no. In my viewpoint, it's disrespectful and sick and they cross lines when they do things like that. But I'm afraid the only way to censor things like that would be to keep going and censor many other things. Is it a good solution? No. Sometimes I think you can only keep going.
Unfortunately, that has little to do with the net. That is incredibly pervasive, including the "No, no, yes!" phenomenon. Of course, on the other side of that, you have the popular, if quiet, rape fantasy, which is rather pervasive in women and might be why non-con is so popular on the net. It's actually very interesting to look up. It's, again, when people want to translate it to real rape that it's disturbing.
Some memes have the point of no limits. Other memes give you a lot of wiggle room but still have rules. Their meme, their rules. That's fine. If you're going on a meme that deliberately has no rules, well, good luck.
Every now and then, a certain someone links me to fandom_wank. I see too many people cross the line between reality and fiction there. Ask any of the individuals who helped give Twilight a bad reputation. It happens. Still, there are productive ways to handle it, if it becomes necessary.
Also, check out a lot of the reality shows, especially the ones about little girls in pageants. WTF.
where did this come from? apart from sopa, have you seen some campaigns for censoring the net? That scares me, coz i completely agree, in fact im one of those people who (apart from pedophilia, i think that's worrying to ever like...) likes some of these sorts of things, but OF COURSE in real life they should never happen. I liken it to tradgedies, just cause you like reading/watching it doesn't mean you wish it on anyone. I can't there are actually people trying to stop all this stuff is there? unless they're the type of people who like to control what other people do, which seems to be a frightening amount of the world :(.
From the SPN fandom. It reminded me of previous conversations about wanting to limit what is posted and such. Stephen King will forever be my favorite example of what you write isn't necessarily what you promote (especially as Pet Sematary scared the crap out of him).
