I agree 100%, because just like in local life you are going to find things you do not like/agree with, online is just a nice reflection of both the seen and unseen portions of humanity (meaning for everything you see locally around you, there are 100 times that hidden behind closed doors. Not to mention the internet is a place with very few closed doors, so you have a greater chance of seeing something you don't agree with or do not understand)
I am in the awkward position of being aroused or interested by things that I am not comfortable admitting in public, or usually even online. In the context of reality, those are things I am known for having zero tolerance towards, and that I consider absolutely unforgiveable. In the context of fantasy, however, where I know no one is hurt by them, and no one will suffer damage physical or mental- I find myself unconsciously drawn to those fantasies, and enjoy them immensely. But only because I know they are not happening to anyone real. I can't even read RPS/RPF for that reason.
....now, to be a complete hyprocite, I fully admit there are certain things I've encountered or read online that have made me want, very, very strongly to never encounter those people in real life ever.
Two words: rape fantasy. There are countless women and men who enjoy it, but it would be horrific to happen in real life, and they are more than aware of it. ...that is one of my favorite examples of fiction vs. rl, with Stephen King's writings being on top.
There are many things I encounter on the net that make me hope to never meet them in real life. Of course, I never want to meet Stephanie Meyers, either. :) And someone people, based on overheard conversations at work, I never want to deal with, but alas, they're my co-workers.
