No matter how smart a person is, love can make us all act like stupid, dumb fools. I was in a relationship for 10 years with a complete and utter asshole. He stole my money, lied and insulted me for at least 8 of those 10 years before I 'grew a brain' and chucked him out. I still, to this day, do not completely understand why I put up with him for so long. Everyone told me to get rid of him and I wouldn't. I kept defending him too. It's hard to explain my actions. Maybe it was hope. Maybe it was a low self esteem. Who knows. One thing I do know is that I've learnt my lesson and will never put up with a relationship like that again. Maybe some of us just have to learn everything the hard way.
I think it's a universal thing that guys who log into your accounts to 'check' on who you've been calling and interrogate you about your whereabouts constantly should be avoided. At all costs.
I'm sorry about your friend. I hope she finally got away from him and got her money back.
... And here is yet another argument that I should bite the bullet and get really serious with my guy 'cause damn is he a keeper. He completely and utterly believes that I am his intellectual equal, even his superior is some areas. I keep hesitating because... i dunno... and then I hear stories like this and I realize how lucky I am to have such a great part-time-boyfriend.

*hugs* At least you learned from it as opposed to jumping from one bad relationship to another.
