Okay, I hope I don't destroy the English language forever. But I had an idea.
She still sees him. After battles, apocalypses and little changes that makes the world spin around once more.
Sometimes she can even see him in the eyes of her son or in the smile of Dawn’s twins which is almost ridiculous because they aren’t even related by blood. But forever was the point, after all.
He’s beautiful and sad and lonely. Sometimes she just wants to stroke his hair and make him remember about all those sweet moments they shared and make him feel just the tenderness and the peace.
She acts like a mother with him. Like a big sister or a friend. And she loves him very much. Like a child and like a lover.
Because forever was the whole point and it still is - even when she closes the door and says goodbye. “I’ll be seeing you,” she whispers.

You're far too modest, sweetie! Buffy/Angel is not a pairing that appeals to me much, but this is SO lovely, and quite where I can imagine both of them years after Chosen and NFA. When Buffy loves, she loves forever, I think; whether it's family, friends or lovers.

And then go to blackfrancine's post about Buffy/Spike and most especially the humor that is inherent in their relationship, (plus lots of pretty pickspams). just 'cause:

You did a fabulous job, no mangling of my mother tongue at all. This makes me more than a tad jealous, because I could never express myself as subtly in Italian. *sobs*
Also, this makes perfect sense to me. As Buffy moves through life, Angel stays the same, a constant (or occasional) reminder of a precious time. Well done.

Thank you! I also think that "forever" for this couple is being present for each other, even if they aren't "together-together". And don't worry, Italian isn't remotely useful as English.

I love how you captured the Buffy/Angel relationship without framing it as explicitly romantic! I think that, while maybe their romance wasn't built to last forever, they'll always be important together. This was lovely, and you certainly didn't destroy English whatsoever!

WE ARE ONE. (on this subject anyway!)
Srsly, this post, and the discussion about Buffy's love by Angearia, blackfrancine and ever_neutral is my favorite-ever touchstone on the subject. "She's the freaking Rosetta stone of love! It all must pass through her!"
