disconnectedness

After thinking about how teaching has consumed my life over the past 8 months, I feel terribly disconnected from my friends. I don't use a phone much anymore because I associate it with my voicemail at school where a good start to my school day is hearing, "You have no new messages." One of my best friends in in Vancouver now and I miss having ( Read more... )

You do need to take time to take better care of yourself. That is one of the HARDEST parts of teaching...not letting it consume your life. Yes, it's your career and your job, you shouldn't let it become your life. It was/is the hardest lesson I've been working on learning...and I've been teaching almost 10 years...I WILL learn it eventually...the first year is the hardest, but treat yourself to time completely away from work...find someway to socialize even if everyone else seems to be gone or busy. Recharging is so essential :)

Just remember you're doing the best you can...even if no one else is...and eventually people will listen more to you, so you won't be 'too smart' for your own good...they just have to realize that :) *grin*

Hey tintin! I hope I didn't do too much yapping... I am a good listener too, if you ever feel like talking, just about anything, I will be there to hear you. I can carry on meaningful conversation too.. it's just that usually someone would have to start it first. I swear I won't be silly or make joke, unless you want to.
Of course, I am not forcing you to spill, ahaha.. i just want to let you know that in case you need to talk, there will be one more friend standing by to listen. :)

thanks for just being there. I definitely appreciate it at this time when I feel so frazzled from having to be in a million places at once.

I'm trying to reserve my weekend afternoons for work and evenings for play :D, but it is still tiring having to work so much. Every minute is worth it though when I see what a positive effect it is on some of my students...I had one parent who actually said that she thought I walked on water when it came to teaching her daughter haha. I don't have Jesus hair, but it still amazes me what teachers do.
