I applaud your efforts. It is sooooo frustrating trying to defend being gay against one's religious beliefs like that. I know what you mean about going in circles. Exactly what I'm going through with my parents.

and it's not like this is the first time we've had similar conversations... it's been 7 years now.

OMG they're like bible bots. They can't have an "honest to god" conversation without running behind their bible shield. I think they're just affraid to have a real conversation.

Your situation always hit's a soft spot with me cause I grew up in a religious pentacostal house hold and these brain washed bible belt type people are all the same. Using the bible as a weapon. I truly feel for you bud.

Challenge them to have a conversation with you. About whatever they want. The only thing they can't bring up is religion, god, or the bible. Now THAT would be interesting :)

i'm honestly not sure if they could... they're so programmed they really can't think for themselves.

Then it's their loss.

The sad part to this all is that they're choosing to be to ignorant to realize it. It's the aftermath of what happens when brainwashed people attempt to lead others. I bet they have a half ass grin on their face when you're defending yourself..that cocky "oh he just doesn't get it" grin. When they are the one's who don't get it.

Maybe they'll come around one day. As for now...I wouldn't blame you for wanting little to nothing to do with them. That's a lot of constant b.s. to put up with and I doubt they ever lay off it.

quite true. they think i've "hardened my heart" towards "my sin", blah, blah, blah.

i'm kinda curious how they would react if i started "preaching" my atheist beliefs to them. spouting off quotes and such... would they get the parallel? i dunno.

the sad part is that it is such a waste of life... imagine all the time they waste going to church, bible study, prayer meetings, etc...

Is she still capable of writing in standard secular English or is she always stuck in cleric mode? How does she sound when she's buying groceries or working or studying? Does she has a favorite parable to contemplate when she's reaching for a roll of toilet paper?

Last night the bf was reading a series of essays from 1910 on the philosophy of laughter. The author proposed that laughter is our way of coping with the inflexible. Really outrageous behavior requires shunning, so laughter is one step below that. In other words, you really need to laugh about this.

hahaha.

you bring up an interesting point... many of them speak in "king james" english when discussing religious things (thee, thou, etc...) but revert back to normal english for non-religious conversations.

and yes, i do find parts of this amusing. because, as you say, what else can you do?

I honestly think you are one of the strongest people I know. To go from that kind of an upbringing to self acceptance as a gay man is a miracle of biblical proportions, pun intended. I'm not sure I could've done it. I just had to deal with secular bigotry.

I am just amazed at how quickly Christians turn their heads from the notion of free will and judgment being reserved for God and just follow their leaders and books written by people so sheepishly.

PS. Thank you for going through so much hassle to mail me the LEGO Doc. I really do appreciate it. :)

No doubt, the tendency toward homosexuality is from birth - who I am without God's intervention.
