MEME: Comment here to find out what the Seventh Doctor really thinks of your character. The truth, I mean, not just what he'd tell you.

Public Service Announcement:
Oh hai guys, I totally forgot to post an entry here saying that I returned from my trip across the pond. Although I suppose the post for Ace's birthday last week was some indication of ( Read more... )

AND SO I SHALL!

The Seventh Doctor on the Master (possibly just as dirty as it sounds, I do not know...):

Well, I'm not the first and certainly not the last person to believe that the Doctor/Master relationship is about as complex as any relationship in the history of TIME could hope to be. And I'm thankful I get to just play it and watch it and don't have to be involved in that mindfuckery. That being said, it's really just about the best fodder for analysis and fic, simply because it is so complex. Every time I think I've got the Doctor's opinion of the Master down, I remember a certain event, or imagine something that might've happened, and then it forces me to reevaluate things.

With that intro out of the way...the Seventh Doctor knows precisely what he's dealing with, what the Master's nature is now, how many cruel, calculated, and completely remorseless acts he commits, but Seven is also completely hung up on what the Master used to be like once, and what he could be, even if there is little to no chance of reformation or ( ... )

Yeahhhhh, that's the trouble with rewatching things, you pick up on little details that become big details, when you sit down to examine things more in depth.

I often wonder what sort of thoughts that fear begets, because I'm sure it's done a number on his psyche, to think about how close he comes to that darkness at times.

So he's just never going to get a nice, placid cup of tea with Simm!Master, is he?

I knew you would, you can't be displeased with me for long, you love me too much. :P

:D

All right, here you go: Seven loves his TARDIS. The End. :P

N'aw, I kid, I kid. You get more than that.

Basically, I see it like this: all of the incarnations preceding Seven were close to the TARDIS (because Doctor/TARDIS = OTP, no matter the incarnation), but the bond kept getting stronger and stronger. I think it started as more mother/child, for a little while, and then BFF for a bit during, say, Two's reign, and then by the time Three came along, it began to change dramatically. The Doctor/TARDIS relationship became more intimate, even deeper, all leading to the Seventh Doctor, where I think things took an even more abrupt, dramatic turn. Because starting with Seven, the Doctor/TARDIS relationship took on a romantic nature/aspect, and it only continued from there, into Eight, Nine and Ten.

Seven can be so obviously not human sometimes, and yet he can completely throw you for a loop and seem to have human tendencies, seem to be curious about the human perspective on things. I really think that, subtly, Seven begins to ( ... )

...that made me flail happily, I'll have you know. Awwwwww, Seven. *snugs him*

He really is a very tactile person, isn't he? And I can definitely see him experimenting with the TARDIS, kinda like him and Koschei surely did when they were at the Academy. Different level and slightly different scenario, but same general concept and feelings. Not to mention, well ... Human Nature.

I also like the idea of Seven being the more romantic of the Doctor's incarnations and getting into a more intimate relationship with the TARDIS because of that. It's intriiiiiiguing.

He's a dear, isn't he? And I'm glad you flailed happily, that should happen more often.

He is SO tactile, and I see him getting quite creative when it comes to touching his TARDIS. Yes, I could see it a lot like with Koschei.

It intrigues me, too. And since it intrigues me, I have to explore it at great depth. All the time. Ceaselessly. It will invade my dreams, and I'll wake up with thoughts about some new angle to the Seven/TARDIS relationship. I ought to keep a notebook by my bed for this very reason.

I think there is something telling in the fact that the first three people who want your honest opinion are the Master, the TARDIS, and Ace. Foursome?

TARDIS says no, that's icky.

The TARDIS just wants Seven all to herself... :P

Well, yes! But she'd be willing to go with a threesome if Ace were involved. She just doesn't want any Master lovin'. Or anyone else having Master lovin' because ew, Master.

I totally want to hear meta-y things.

OH AND I HAD A QUESTION FOR YOU. I THOUGHT OF IT RANDOMLY AGES AGO. While indulging in Seven serials.

Okay! So I was rewatching some Seven serials and being generally happy over them and the thought stuck me that the Other stuff is a little thick sometimes. And I suddenly wondered what you thought about it! Like do you work it into your canon or dislike it?

It's a bit...well, it's not only somewhat convoluted and complex, but the concept itself just seems to overextend itself. Like it's meant to be this really epic revelation about the Doctor (and I suppose Seven's nature in particular), but it falls short because of its own hubris--the 'idea' just thought it was better than it really was. But then, it's possible it might've been better developed if the show had gone on longer. Personally, I like coming up with my own theories about Seven; because even though all the incarnations of the Doctor are the same being, they're not necessarily the same...self, or essence, if that makes sense. And I think Seven was the first Doctor to come along where you really start to think there's a lot of grey area with the Doctor, that he's not always this benevolent crusader, and that sometimes his idea of justice is upsetting to others.

So there's a bit of meta right there! You brought it out of me almost effortlessly.
