“Ok. How do I look?”
“Wow, very hot and sexy. Although possibly a bit too much like a rent boy - you might want to tone it down a bit.”
“You think? Nah, from what I’ve heard of Harkness it won’t do any harm to tempt him a little.”
“Be careful.”
“I will. Got my weevil spray. What could possibly go wrong?”
“You know you just jinxed it.”
“Never. Love you Lisa. See you later.”
And with that Ianto left to hunt a weevil and wait for Captain Jack Harkness to arrive to collect it.

-----------------------

Ianto quietly crept into their tiny rented apartment, not wanting to wake Lisa if she was asleep. He kicked off his boots and hung his jacket on the hook behind the door. He pushed open the door to the bedroom and found Lisa sleeping as peacefully as she could these days. He stood and watched her for a minute, twitching in her sleep, dreaming, occasionally whimpering in pain. Ianto’s heart clenched at the sight. After a few minutes he pulled the door to and stepped back into the tiny kitchen. He boiled the kettle and spooned some coffee into the caffetiere.

As he leaned on the counter waiting for the coffee he reflected on his attempt to join Torchwood 3. It hadn’t gone as planned, but to be fair Ianto hadn’t really planned it all that well. He had assumed that saving the Captain’s life and knowing what a weevil was would be all he needed to be offered the job, after all Three was woefully understaffed.
But it wasn’t to be.
However, Ianto hadn’t failed to notice the way Jack Harkness looked him up and down, his eyes roving in what was surely more than just a professional appraisal. As the Captain was walking away Ianto had tried to salvage the situation by letting a flirtatious tone creep into his voice as he complimented the coat. It was a nice coat after all, and it really did suit the Captain. Although Harkness didn’t turn around at his words Ianto did detect a hitch in the rhythm of his steps as he heard and reacted to Ianto’s words. It would appear the rumours about the Captain were true.

Ianto washed up his coffee cup and went to check on Lisa again.
“Ianto?” she asked as he poked his head around the door.
“Sh… it’s ok Lise, it’s me.” He said, hurrying to her side and holding her hand, carefully avoiding the metal cage that imprisoned her. It was time for her pain meds so he injected some more morphine into the saline drip. Their supplies were getting low. The drugs he stole from Torchwood One wouldn’t last much longer, and although he had been supplementing them with the strongest pain killers and sedatives he could legally buy over the counter at the chemists he was going to have to find a supply of the hard stuff, and soon. A reminder of his failure this evening.

“Did you find Captain Harkness?” Lisa whispered.
“Yeah,” Ianto replied, his eyes loosing focus as he thought of his meeting with the charismatic Captain. “Didn’t really go to plan though. I helped him catch a weevil. I was expecting him to be impressed that I wasn’t scared of it and was able to help him, but I guess the good citizens of Cardiff are so used to their alien neighbours that it isn’t unusual for him to have help. So I let slip that I knew what it was.”
As Ianto talked he faffed with Lisa’s drip and changed the dressing on the wound in her side.
“That seemed to have the opposite effect to what I was after, closing him down and he just thanked me and said he’d take it from there. I didn’t know what else to do so I decided to test his reputation and I flirted with him, telling him that I liked his coat. He has this really cool, but totally out of place world war two military coat. He seemed to respond to that so I guess the rumours are true. He was already walking away from me with the weevil on his shoulder though, so he couldn’t really stop to chat. I’m going to go and accost him tomorrow morning, see if I can’t turn on a bit of the old Jones charm.” Ianto smiled. “Maybe take him a pot of coffee too - nobody can resist my coffee.”
“I couldn’t,” Lisa whispered, a small answering smile on her lips before being replaced with her almost permanent grimace of pain.

Ianto’s smile grew but his eyes were full of sadness as he recalled how they had met over the coffee machine at Torchwood One. He had poured himself a cup and she was just too late at calling out a warning to him not to drink it. When he had finished spluttering she said there was a Starbucks around the corner which was where she got her coffee. He had to admit that Starbucks was miles better than that sludge but was a far cry from anything he could make himself with his French press. They had gone to Starbucks for their lunchtime caffeine hit and he had invited her back to his place after work to taste the real stuff. And the rest, as they say was history.

Ianto returned his mind to the task at hand. “Do you mind?”
“Mind what?” Lisa asked, her mind sluggish from the drugs struggling to keep up with Ianto’s change of subject.
“Me taking him coffee. Flirting. Prostituting myself.”
“What? That’s… why would I mind? You don’t mean anything by it do you?”
“Well no…” Ianto said, ignoring the tiny voice somewhere at the very back of his mind that was at least curious. “But I just feel… it’s wrong. Leading him on, using him. I don’t know how far I would have to take it to get the job, and then to keep him off his guard and stop him suspecting anything once I have access to the Torchwood Three facility.” Ianto could tell he was babbling but he couldn’t help it. He could see that the only way to get into Harkness’s base would be to get into his pants. And the thought terrified and disgusted him. And excited him. “I’m sorry Lise. I just… I don’t know how far I’ll be able to take it. I don’t know if I will be able to keep him distracted. I just… I don’t know… I feel dirty even thinking about it, but it’s the only way. And I will do it. I’ll do anything for you Lisa…” he trailed off a he looked down at her. The painkillers had taken effect and she had drifted off to sleep. For once she looked quite peaceful as if the lyrical tone of his voice had soothed her to sleep. Her small fingers laced with his much larger ones seemed so fragile. And he realised that he meant it. He really would prostitute himself for her.
