It was early in the morning, but Allen was used to waking at this hour. He enjoyed the pale sunlight, the still-crisp air not yet warmed by the day, and the songs of birds breaking the near silence

Lenalee emerged from the tent fully dressed, and with a smile, if a bit of a nervous one. She hadn't always liked early mornings, but in a place like this, outside, it was beautiful. Every single one was different.
"I don't think anyone in town will be up this early, Allen."
Allen blinked for a moment, then laughed softly; he had forgotten that.
"Ah, that's all right." Well, they were already up, so they might as well get going, he supposed. "We should get some food first. And it might be easier looking without so many people around."
Food seemed to be most of what Allen thought about. It made sense, she thought, based on the way he ate it. A part of Lenalee had already set itself to not eat for the day if it meant Allen had to buy food for her.
"Do you think anyone is going to...recognize us?" There was a little fear in her voice, with good reason.
Allen tilted his head and thought for a moment. "They might, if they've been to the circus. But," he continued, sensing that fear, "I don't think anyone really got a good look at us, and we're not going to go dressed in our costumes today..."
Mornings had never been her greatest time of day, but when her parents had given her the money she needed for her new dancing shoes, she had been so excited that she had gotten up extra early that day, so that she could be at the shop as it opened. Now, with an empty basket on her arm, she ran through the town, her thoughts entirely on the pink shoes clutched tightly in her hands. So preoccupied was she with her thoughts, that she didn’t even notice the loose stone in her path. Her foot connected, and before she knew it she was tripping and stumbling, directly into the people in front of her.
"Ah?" Allen stopped as a girl stumbled into them, quickly reaching out to steady her. She wasn't someone he had met before, that was for sure.
He smiled, hoping Lenalee wasn't too scared; the girl certainly didn't look threatening, and like as not seemed one of the better choices for a stranger meeting. "Are you all right?"
Lenalee just barely avoided ducking behind Allen. She was honestly worried, anyway, that the girl might hurt herself. He had asked the only question she could think of, too, so she did her best to offer the girl a kind smile.
Ahiru blinked, surprised at the fact that she hadn't landed on the ground. It took her a moment, but she realized that somebody had caught her. Not catching their words in her muddled confusion, she scrambled backwards, aghast at the fact she had stumbled into them in the first place.
"Sorry! I'm so, so sorry!" She muttered, before adding "but thank you for catching me."
