Characters: Rydia (wandering into Ceodore, then Kain) Progress: On-going Summary: In-progress Location: Troia, around the castle and town Date: October, 1804 Warnings: Nah
Kain was seated right near the large window and staring out, a place he so often was lately. Despite it being a somewhat cool fall day, that window was currently wide open. At the moment, Zephyr was out getting some much needed flight and Kain was watching her as she soared gracefully through the air.
He glanced over on hearing Rydia. Mostly, he still wondered why she would want anything to do with him right now. "If you want..."
Of course she wanted, why else would she be there? But Rydia bit back such a response. Kain was in low spirits and understandably so. What he had prized most, aside from that dragon, had been taken from him. She slipped inside and closed the door behind her, heading over to the window. For a moment, she didn't say anything, just watched Zephyr. A small smile formed. "She seems to be enjoying herself here again."
Kain stared out, eying the sky with undisguised longing, and watching Zephyr as she soared farther away, chasing after a flock of small birds. "She loves a chance to stretch her wings, and to hunt..." He at least seemed more at ease when he was talking about his dragony child.
Rydia watched for a moment longer, then her gaze slid back to him. "I would have taken her, but...it seemed best to leave her in the hands of one who knew what he was doing." Caring for the young dragon would certainly have been a handful, and Rydia felt far too inexperienced in such ways to be of any help.
Mornings weren't exactly Ceodore's best time of the day. Given his preference, he'd sleep away half the morning and keep late hours far into the night. However, since his unplanned and unwanted arrival in this strange place, sleep eluded him. In so few days, he'd already only taken to sleeping when his body gave in to the need. Unfortunately, those hours were few and far between and usually fretful at best. So Rydia's search for him would be short. He was outside, pacing the perimeter of the castle, attempting to conceive of a way back.
Not that it wasn't entirely novel to see his father and Rydia so young again, but there were such pressing problems at home, he just couldn't accept his presence here. Strangely the idea of being teleported by whatever arcane magics to a different world didn't disturb him in theory. There were those unusual elevators all along the moon, after all. Who was to say they were not the culprits here?
Out of sheer frustration, he kicked a stray rock, not paying attention to where it went at all.
Rydia sidestepped the rock as she approached, raising an eyebrow. That he might not be in the best of moods due to his sudden arrival and father's condition was understandable. Still, it was a sharp contrast to Rosa's own demeanor. She would not say as much, though. Doubtless Ceodore would hear a lot of talk regarding his parentage.
"...Ceodore?" She paused a few paces away, not certain her company was welcome. "What's wrong?"
At the sound of his name, Ceodore brought his attention back to his surroundings. He half expecte Kain, the one he knew, to be somewhere nearby waiting to deliver a whack on the back of his head and a reminder to pay attention. Not that he wanted to own up to it, but the prince almost missed that. Almost.
"Hey, Rydia." He half-smiled at her, not realizing she was almost a victim to his rock kicking. "Something wrong?"
Stupid question. There was far too much wrong, but he didn't think about that until he asked.
Rydia echoed the half-smile, reaching him. "I'd just asked that of you. You seem...distracted." There was an inquiring tone as she looked at him, uncertain what she could actually do, yet not wishing to see him in such a state. For all that he was a virtual stranger to her, he was apparently family as well. "What's on your mind, Ceodore?"
