Thank the gods for adoptive mothers getting involved! The whole conversation was rather awkward. He could hardy tell the kid that the girl sat next to him was his dream woman. He'd never hear the end of it! "You'll be the first person to know, Eiko."

He smiled at her and then shot Mjrn an apologetic look. His lovelife was hardly dinner table talk.

Mjrn smiled and shook her head at the apologetic look. She was not upset in the least, though hoped for his sake that the topic would soon be exhausted. Perhaps it was now, thanks to that look Eiko had received. She smiled at Eiko as well, though, not truly annoyed with the girl.

So far, it was a truly satisfying visit for Rydia. She had been witness to a dear friend finally getting married to the man she loved, in a moving and intimate ceremony. Most if not all of her friends were present, and it was apparent that Alexandria was on its way to recovering from the dragon attack. There was little else she could ask for, and at this time she was content to give thanks for what was available to them.

Formal dining wasn't something Rydia did often, but she wasn't too worried. She knew enough to mimic others, if need be, and many of the people on the list were friends of hers anyway, further reducing self-consciousness. Gaia had provided more formal occasions than she had ever attended in her world, and Alexandrian manners and customs had sunk in quite easily.

She sat down, prepared for a peaceful banquet, then inwardly groaned upon realizing where she had been placed--between Kain and Edge.

Kain had purposefully skipped the ceremony itself, having a gloomy mindset at the mere thought of such a joyful union between lovers. He held a bitter, cynical opinion about such things. It had tempted him not to attend any part of the ceremony, but ended up forced- somehow- into being there. He'd simply agreed with the others, but then just not shown to the first part, sneaking in only now to find his place at dinner.

As he approached, he nodded a greeting to Rydia. Well... if he were seated near her, perhaps it wouldn't be so terrible. No having to make useless small talk with a stranger. Things appeared to be smoothed over between them from that one... incident, so he was content not to mention it again.

He sat down, not yet aware who would be seated nearby...

Edge dropped his head when he realized that Kain would be seated so close to him. Whose idea of a joke was it to sit him so near. With a ball following the banquet, he couldn't afford to get Rydia upset with him. He gritted his teeth together before cordially nodding towards the dragoon.

It had to be a simple error, but now, instead of being relaxed, Rydia would be constantly monitoring the situation. She glanced to either of them as though to say that they had better keep the peace. There would be no disrespecting Garnet by causing a scene, if she could help it.

It was too bad Rydia was between them... it would make it impossible to kick Edge under the table or step on his feet. Not that Kain would ever admit to resorting to such childish actions.

...Unless Edge deserved it.

For now he purposefully avoided looking at Edge.

Kain was lucky that Rydia was between the two of them. This was not going to be an enjoyable dinner, but he would be damned if Kain was going to spoil this evening.

Making a point of ignoring Kain, he kept his attention solely on the meal before him.

He had to admit that the wedding was nice even if he didn't particularly care for the groom. He was thankful that the wedding was over and he would be able to engage his companion more than a cursory glance.

Being a chivalrous knight himself, Delita politely ignored the castle staff as he pulled out a chair for Refia. He hoped she would not worry about all the intricacies of noble dining, but knew from experience it could be daunting to the untrained.

Simple. Well organized. Elegant, but not overly extravagant. So far, the evening had gone off well. That is, until Garnet went to eat...

And remembered that she was right handed. The problem there, was that her right hand was currently tied to Zidane's left with a chain of daisies. She paused, glanced at her utensils, her hand, and finally reached awkwardly for the fork with her left hand. This was going to be interesting.

Unencumbered by anything as delicate as daisy chains, Steiner tucked into his food with relish. As Garnet's knight, of course, he was seated close to the royal couple.

"Mmmph! This is good. I must pass on my compliments to the chef."

Garnet smiled in Steiner's direction, trying her best to remain as poised as possible with her fork in the wrong hand. She envied his ability to dive into the food like that, but she'd be damned before she let her pride go. She would not let him know that she was having ANY sort of difficulty.

"I have to say though... I miss Quina's presence in the Kitchen," she mused, an honest truth, but also trying to keep up the small-talk.

Steiner nodded, and stopped stuffing his face for a moment to give an answer. "I agree, Your Majesty! Quina was an excellent chef. I have encountered no-one finer."

Thinking of Quina reminded him of the other friends who were still missing and ought to be here. Freya. Amarant. Even Master Vivi, should the Iifa Tree decide to extend its mercy to those already passed. His expression turned sombre.

"Would that Quina were here to witness this occasion. I'm sure that s/he would have enjoyed it very much."

Garnet smiled sadly. It had been far too long since she had seen or heard from any of their friends; Amarant and Quina had been absent since the beginning, and Freya had been around for a short time... but when she hadn't responded to the wedding invitation, Garnet could only assume that she had been taken from Gaia. And then there was the matter of Tantalus... She'd always assumed that Baku and the boys would be around. Blank was there, which she was glad for, but it just didn't feel the same with so many absent.

"I hope that, wherever they are, they're alright." she replied, before making another attempt to pick at her dinner with the wrong hand.

"They are not the type to lose heart," Steiner reassured her. "And neither should we."

In Steiner's mind, once they sorted this whole business with the Sky People out, everything would be restored back to normal. He liked some of the Sky People, but he'd gladly see them gone if it meant his missing comrades returned.
