Sample Post 3: Robin Test Scene

Tim took a few deep breaths as he walked down the steps to the Bat cave. He hadn't been down for a  while...not since..... He didn't need to think about that just now but an image of Stephanie came unbidden to his mind nevertheless. He sighed as he entered the dim light of the cave.

Tim saw Batman hunched over his computer, not indicating he had ( Read more... )

If the silence was awkward for Tim, it was not so for Bruce. Then again Bruce lived a great amount of his life in silence - it left him with his thoughts and left him the time to wrestle with his own inner demons in ways that few understood. Tim was one of the few who could come close to understanding, but Bruce wasn't quite so confident of that anymore. Ever since Stephanie's death, the two of them had drifted apart.

Glancing to the side, Bruce nodded his head to Tim once and then silently jerks his head towards a chair off to the side, inviting the boy to have a seat next to him. The case on the screen before him was one that Tim might recognize, one of the many cold cases that Bruce kept an eye on, in hopes of finding some clue.. no matter how old.

"Same old." he said, before he then glanced fully at Tim and asked him point blank, "Want to help?"

Tim had been prepared for the straight question from his mentor, Batman had never ever been one to mince his words or beat around the bush.

He took a deep breath. "I'd love to. I.... I know I've been distant from you for a long time and very lax in the mission. I.... I just wanted to say that I'm sorry. I feel I've let you down. It won't happen again."

Shifting in his chair, he looked at the screen on the computer. "Is there any new evidence or are you simply re-analysing the old stuff?"

"The mission is different. It's not changed a whole lot, but.. it's different." replied Bruce in a dark tone, before he then looked back to the computer. It was somehow easier to address Tim and what he had said without looking at the boy.

"I understand why you've been distant. It's.. not entirely your fault and in many ways, I don't blame you. There are a lot of things that even I do now.. because of her." he replied, "In fact, her memory is part of what has been motivating me to take some of the steps that I've recently started taking."

When Tim asks of the case, he just shrugged a bit and sat back, a hand scraping through his hair as he said "Nothing new, just going over old files.. There are a few odds and ends that don't make sense but I've not put it all together yet." he raised an eye brow, and glanced towards Tim. "What do you make of this?"

Bruce pushed a few buttons and brought up a wholly different case, though there are quite a few eerie similarities with the last case he had displayed.

Tim frowned as he looked at the case in front of him. A white male in his 30's had been stabbed 3 times and left for dead in the east side of Gotham. The coroner had passed it off as a random mugging, still all too common despite the Bat Family's best efforts. Tim's brow furrowed as he skimmed the autopsy, noticing the similarities with the case Bruce had been looking at previously ( ... )

Bruce just nodded his head, a ghost of a smile coming to his lips. Tim hadn't missed a beat, and for that Bruce was thankful. It was what he needed - what he was hoping for. Things had been far too hard on him in the past year, and in many ways it felt good to be getting back in the saddle again.

Turning his attention to the screen, Bruce hit a few buttons and brought up the old case as he said "If you look back, six years ago, there were three murders. Nine years ago, there was one." he then glanced to Tim, his tone dark as he said "If it follow the pattern, then we have three days before the next murder.. And there will probably be six total."
