Specially for dan4behr , and anyone else who is interested. Some photos that I took in my neighbourhood. There are losts of such cars still surviving in Bulgaria.

Exhibit #1: The Škoda that Dan recognized in my previous entry.

I can hardly remember seeing some Trabants here. But Lada cars were present. And Škoda. Moskvich not really.

We had lots of Trabants, but they were the first to go.

Moskvich - had lots of them and still lots of survivors.

Lada was the queen. :)

LOL there were plenty of Trabants here (although there were never enough of them, or any other cars, for everybody who wanted one), but it's difficult to find a Trabant now.

You are welcome. :)

I have NEVER seen a Moskvich, I never heard that name before...
(ok, I'm a woman, so don't hit me!) LOL
Skoda's, Lada's and Trabant's I've seen here.
(yes, they were here also on the roads, and not even THAT long ago)
Trabant, or as we say 'trammelant' (which means trouble) because everyone was having trouble with a trabant ;-)
In these days I see hardly any of these cars anymore, and if they show up, they are all looking brandnew...

And what I noticed is, that all the cars numberplates start with CT.
So I guess it's meaning they are from the same place. (just like inGermany, HH = Hamburg)

CT is the Cyrillic /ST/ for my town, Stara Zagora.

The Moskvich is a Russian car. It seems that it was sold only in the Soviet Union and its satellites (maybe not even in Yugoslavia?).

Yes, I thought it might be something like that :-)
They have the same 'idea' in Germany, the numberplates starting with initials from that City or area...

Just because you've piqued my curiousity... do you or your family have a car and if so, what is it?

We've had two Ladas that still exist on the farm. One of the farm workers drives the older one (at least 20 years old, and much used). My mother now has a Renault Clio (second hand).

Just yesterday I had the occasion of traveling in a communist era car that was still being used as a taxi. Funny thing though, the cushions were still very comfy.
In Romania these cars can still be found here in there. I remember we had 3 national brands: Dacia (still present), Oltena, ARO (our SUV brand....and here and there some "fancy" foreign cars like WV Beetle, Skodas and some Citroens.
It was funny though how this was supporting our car-paints industry...since there were so few models to choose from, the only way to customize the car was the paint.
Wish I could remember more, but I was too little at that time. Still, I still like the WV Beetle.

Oh hello, Maruan, you mastered the OpenID. :P. I'm adding you as a friend and giving you full access to everything in my blog. Not that I've posted many friends-only entries recently.

There were Dacias here too, and there are even now, the more modern ones (I can't even remember when I've last seen one of the communist era, but I don't pay much attention to cars). My sister said that most taxis are either Dacia or Reanult. I hardly ever use taxis, and as I said I don't pay much attention to cars.

Your ARO brands is still present in... our crosswords. LOL

That car-paint thing is funny... It reminds me of how we girls at high school wore ribbons of all colours to look different form each other since that was the only colour liberty we were permitted (shoes too, but there wasn't much choice of shoes). And that was a "liberal" school to permit us coloured shoes and ribbons, but otherwise we could only wear black, white and blue. My Slovenian friend Tomaz - paterson_si was terrified when I told him all details about the dress code. :) Things were ( ... )

Well, actually I haven't mastered anything...it was just fool's luck that I have managed to use the openID thingy :D.

Indeed, at least in Bucharest most taxis are Dacia Logan (or Renault Logat...which is basically the same).

The same dress code terror was also present in Romania...thank god I only got to see the latter days of it!

You can even upload a userpic (avatar) to your Open ID profile page if you want.
http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=1

Outside avatars don't show here, and Livejournal avatars don't show elsewhere. People usually have more than one avatar here . And sometimes different people use the same avatar, so you can only identify people by their usernames.(I have 15 avatars, which is the maximum with a free account, and I think you can have 6 avatars with your open ID. But I'm always
