That store clerk was a bitch. I had to deal with store clerks like those too when I was in Russia. You just need to remember that some people are just bitter and it had nothing to do with you. They do this to everyone. Next time, just give them the finger the good ol' American way.
I really enjoyed all your insightful observations on Russia. Russian people truly baffled me. The most notable experience being getting drunk with several Russian kids who started ranting about the "chornie" For some reason, they did the exact opposite of beating the crap out of me and called me a "white" brother. That just goes on to show how fluid a concept race is. The kids who beat up Asians probably have a Victor Tsoi poster in their room. I don't think Russians have problems with minorities purely because of race. I think the hate has more to do with the socioeconomic class which many of the minorities belong to.

And I agree with you wholeheartedly about the real problem being tied to economics and not race. The problem is that people don't realize what the actual source of their resentment is, and other people get beaten up or killed as a result.
