Moments of homesickness

I know that moving to Florida was necessary for my health. I'm grateful for the healthy relationship that has been growing between my parents and me. I've been making friends and getting involved the community. Still, there are moments when I feel as though there's a part of me that has been amputated, that I miss terribly ( Read more... )

Oh, hon, I can totally relate to so much of this. Leaving Houston was the hardest move I've ever had barring my family's move from England when I was 15. I was thrilled for spouse and happy to be leaving the miserable Houston climate. But I'm so lonely sometimes. I have a few friends here, but I don't know that there will ever be people like the folks I left in Houston.

I'd also love to move somewhere that I could *feel* healthy. I think Oklahoma is better, but I think altitude and dry air would be best for me. Unfortunately, I can't do that til spouse gets tenure. So we're stuck.

Hang in. I'm glad you have some positives with the move. Cling to those, while keeping the connection as live as you can with those far away. I've found lj a good place to do that.

It helps a little. Still, I miss my people up north. I had something special there that I'm not sure I'll be able to build down here.

I really couldn't have said it better myself.

Do you know felisdemens? She's Florida-based, but has a lot of Boston-area connections that overlap with yours. Interests, too.

Maybe she'd be a point to link to more local weirdness for you.

She's in my frakking backyard, and I have friended her. Much thanks.

Hey, you functioned as a nexus point IRL for a long time. The least I can do is pass the favor along on LJ! (Did something similar for auspeople too when she moved.)
