And, based on the principle "violence is bad/evil/wrong," then any taxation that is imposed upon a people by threat of force cannot stand on moral ground.
More so, putting together a single entity that decides what is good for everyone else prevents competition and suffocates creativity as there are multiple solutions to social issues. This exclusivity centralizes power insofar as to create a world where one group dominates over others. This concept of "public good" does not exist in reality, and the whole idea is counter intuitive to boot. Having an external force dictating how one should behave is essentially proposing that we are without the ability to reason and solve social issues.
It's still a sinking ship.tigron_xDecember 16 2010, 18:23:06 UTC
That's not really setting the bar very high. And, when you compare like to like, there really isn't much of a difference. e.g. Canada vs USA.
If you're border line obese, and you see 2 others who are way over the line, you don't say, "At least I'm not that big," and it be a valid comparison in regards to health. At the end of the day, you're still fat.
So, what does it matter? What does it matter that these other countries are worse off than you are? (I don't think they are. I think they're all in the same boat.)
At the end of the day, you're still not in a good position. Throwing your fist up in the air and yelling, "We're the best!" is all talk. "Yay! We're at the front of the boat!"
I love the optimisim, but the boat is still sinking!

Indeed.
If the Interstate Highway Trust worked as advertised, fuel taxes would fund an endowment (trust) to maintain the roads.
If SS and unemployment worked as planned, withholding taxes should pay for those.
Tariffs used to pay for the military.
Property taxes used to pay for public schools and poor houses (almshouse).
State and city sales taxes covered pretty much the rest of your governance.
Given all that, one ought to question what "public good" remains that could possibly need subsidized by an income tax.
