She's been on 6 for several months, she's good at reading finally, but isn't that interested in reading her school book at the moment.

Harry is the complete opposite. He will ONLY read his school books. The Peppa Pig book he read to Beth in the video I posted this week is the first time he has read something that isn't a school book

Kate became much more interested in reading non-school books herself once she discovered the rainbow fairy books. Def not recommending them, as they are awful, but the idea of finding a set of books that appealed to her kick started her off. I don't really look at the boy orientated section in the library, though I know they prefer non-fiction.

Some of her friends who are less good at reading (is that correct grammar?!) are on level 8, but their mums make them read their book each day, I'm more chilled & don't force the issue. She goes through stages & is a not so bothered one atm. The school is also keen to point out that what level they are on is secondary to their interest in reading & that Kate will read books happily is better than going up a stage.

That's fab :) I have no idea what's expected of kids at any given age but level 7 sounds very good!

It doesn't appear (as of yet) to be much harder than 6, the books just have more pages in. If she could be graded on *spit* rainbow fairy books, she'd be on about level 20 :p
