Today my daughter gets on a plane and flies by herself to New Mexico.
She's been nervous, and I've been telling her how fine it will be. Now
that it's here, I think I'm more nervous than she is.

What a very big step for BOTH of you.

I used to do it when I was little, and I kept telling
her how fun it would be. I'm having second thoughts.
It probably doesn't help that I heard a story last week
where an airline put two different girls on two completely
wrong flights and sent them to another part of the country.

What are the rules for minors traveling alone?

I know at one point after all the security changes
you could still walk with them all the way to their gate
and basically hand them directly to the flight attendant.
Then, who ever was picking up could walk all the way to
the gate they come into ... even without a boarding pass.
I know that's what Mom has done with Grandma.

At least then you don't have to worry about her getting on the wrong plane.

Hailey will have a blast. Once she's there she'll be spoiled.
Seriously how cool that she gets to fly like a little grown up!
You, however, will be a mess until you talk to her at the other end.
... How long is the flight?

We just have to fill out some paperwork and we can walk her
all the way up. Same way with pickup. I wasn't bothered
at all by it until today. :o) Now I'm just nervous.
The flight is about 2 hours. I've packed colors and books
and snacks. Of course I forgot the DS, but she'll just
have to deal.
