Saturday morning, CC, TD and I set out to complete the Leadville Heavy Half Marathon in Leadville, CO, with spectator assistance from AH (who also offered us puffs from her inhaler before we headed up the mountain, which may have been key to the success of the whole operation!).

This sucker was hard. My legs felt like bricks from the start. ( Read more... )

>>around this time, the man who won the marathon passed us
Passed you coming back down, or just hitting his stride on the way up?

The two races started together, then split off - the marathoners did a loop, then joined the half marathon course. The winner of the marathon passed us at OUR mile 5 of the heavy half - then smoked by us before we hit the top of the pass. We finished the heavy half in 4:43 or so - the winner of the MARATHON finished in 3:36. But he lives in Crested Butte, so elevation was no big for him.

I saw the pictures. Running it seems insane, but it looks like a pretty day hike.

That it would be. Would still acclimatize though. I went early and stayed with CC at 8,000 ft and felt ok - TD went straight up and didn't feel so hot.
