The game always ended this way. The push and pull, the endless pursuit of one another.
Sometimes it would begin with Mohinder tracking him down, furious over the unrelenting string of murders. Sylar would let himself be caught, easily slipping out of the doctor’s latest attempt to murder him.
Other times their roles would reverse. Sylar would grow bored, or come up with one of his many excuses. He’d always give himself away, accidentally-on-purpose. Mohinder would flee, as always, making it just far enough for that small glimmer of hope. He enjoyed his delusions that he could escape, that he was actually capable of slipping from Sylar’s grasp. Sylar got a thrill from the chase, so he allowed him that small hope.
The game always ended with Sylar the victor, Mohinder never really stood a chance and they both knew it. Mohinder would always struggle, always deny, always fight it. It was expected, just another phase in the game, with each meeting it lasted less time. Each time the struggles were more and more pathetic.
The game always ended this way. A tangled mess of arms and limbs, bodies twined together. Frantic and desperate, hate giving way to worship. Denial was a part of what they were; what this twisted, ugly and beautiful relationship was. No matter how hard they both tried to fight it, they couldn’t escape that one essential fact.
They needed each other.
