so i woke up this morning and the weatherman on NPR says it's -20 outside with a windchill of -40. so i washed my hands of the day and went back to bed.

thankfully, the thought of seeing so many wonderful people on New Year's is enough to warm my heart, etc.

so i'm weaving my way through the back alleys of Varanasi toward mother ganga when these two guys approach me and start up an awkward conversation in which they speak in hindi and i speak in confused english. and then one of the guys breaks out a report card that i can't make any sense of, so i ask "good?" and he says "No. Fail.
