I'd love to introduce my character, but it would be very helpful if you or one of the other mods posted first, so that I know what you're going for. BTW, in our character's backstory, are we tied to RL? For instance, Amy is 47 years old, has five brothers and sisters and was raised Greek Orthodox. Am I locked into that reality or can I tweak it?

I'm hoping Jen will post hers here in the next couple of days. Due to finals, I won't be able to really work on my introduction for a few days. (Which is also why we're not getting this off the ground and running TONIGHT.)

As for your question, I'm pretty sure we can tweak little things here and there (I mean, we're already tweaking their sexual orientations, right?) but I would have to clear that with Jen first. I'm thinking little tweaks aren't a big deal, but I don't think we want to get too crazy with things that will make the characters almost unrecognizable. I'll talk to her about it whenever she comes back online. :)

Actually, I'll be sticking pretty close to Amy's RL. It's what makes her who she is, after all. Besides, being a 44-year-old critter lover with interesting decorating tastes myself, I love Amy just the way she is. =) I just thought, in case inspiration strikes, I wanted to be sure of the rules.

We're still...working out some of the rules as we go along. This was kind of a fun idea that grew into a plan, and when we posted to see who wanted to write with us it just BLEW UP. It was crazy (and awesome).

Normally, I'm just glad to be in college at this point (since it took me so long to get into school in the first place) but I had a wicked test last week that sapped all my energy...and it wasn't even a final. Now, I don't want to do any of this. I could have studied DAYS ago, but I keep screwing around with other things.

After Wednesday, though, this comm is getting my full attention!

Erm... so, how does an anonymous vote work?

Also, is the chapter supposed to tie into the previous chapter in any way? Or is it just whatever I want?

the anonymous voting will be done via electronic vote tallies. they are cool little deals that will allow you to cast your vote, then when you open the post it will show you the current results. we'll set up time limits so that people know to vote within a certain period. they work kind of like lj-cuts and can be added to an entry by the mods through lj coding.

if you respond to the chapter before yours, it would be great if you continued the story line you started, but it is not manditory. really we're hoping all of the story lines will be so embedded with one another that each fic turns out to be like a 'choose your own ending' book.

Allow me to Schrute it for a moment.

QUESTION:

So when we write a chapter, I'm guessing that writing in first person is the go? And are we allowed to write dialogue and actions for other characters willy-nilly? Or do we need to go over it with the owner of that character beforehand to okay it?

I'm totally a learn-by-following-examples kind of gal, so after you modly wonders get the ball rolling, I'm sure my head hurties will go away. AND THEN I'LL JUST BE EXCITED!

feel free to write in whatever style makes you the most comfortable. i always write in third person because...well i don't know why...but i always do. you are more than welcome to write your responses and chapter in first person if that works for you.

you are free to write in any character you want, you do not have to ask anyone's permission or work with anyone. if you want to, that's great, but it is not required. that person may choose to respond to your chapter by telling the same story in the other person's voice, or they may respond to your chapter by putting their character in a different pairing or situation all together.

i just posted my introduction piece to give you guys a better idea of what we are looking for in that. take an aspirin, read on, and get excited, i know i am! =D

did you read mine? i hope it helped. yeah, i never actually thought of it as role playing when i had the idea until sinnrsandsaints pointed it out to me.

i don't need anymore puppies over here, but i'll take the love! and send some right back at you for participating and helping to make my crack dreams come true. =D

None of you know me, but I'm at avid lurker over at fakenews_fanfic and OH MY GOD THIS IDEA IS MADE OF EPIC WIN AND I'M SO EXCITED THAT THIS IS HAPPENING!!! *composes self* Ahem. Sorry about the capslock-flail, I can't help myself sometimes. :-)
