I don't think you were, to be honest - the picture just turned out a bit goofy and funny. You do look much more sober on several pics taken later the same evening.
Think of how incredibly drunk I look in several photos taken when I was completely sober. :)

It's my special talent then - looking completely wasted when being close to sober ;)

Now, is that a good or a bad talent? ;>

Depends on how you look on it. It's embarassing for you, but entertaining for the rest us. :D

That is awfully big for a house spider, but down here in the desert (or is that "up here"?) we have a rather large arachnid called the vinegaroon, or sun spider. It gets to be around 8 cm long, not counting the legs, which is fucking huge...but that's not the bad part.

The nasty part about sunspiders is they are aggressive - and will pursue and attack humans unless killed on sight.

Did I mention the two-centimeter long chelicerae?

Yeah, the spiders we have here are mercifully small, compared to warmer climates, and none of them are dangerous. The worst you can get is a bite that pinches or stings you a little. I can't say that I envy your scary creatures, but they're fascinating from afar... :D
There is one species here that can get as large as a grown man's palm, but it's uncommon that they become as big as that.

I remember someone somewhere posting a picture from Arizona, I think it was, of a wall clock - the ordinary kind, at least ten inches across - with long spider's legs sticking out from behind it, all around the clock. That gives you perspectives.

jeeezus... I don't know if I would die of fright or just kill my self to end the suffering upon meeting one of those thingies.
But this summer I've been a big girl. I actually threw out a nasty insect all on my own.
Usually I put a cup with a book on top over them and call and scream at my friends to come and rescue me.

I've become used to them since we moved here a couple of years ago - there are A LOT of spiders here, and some very large ones at that. I rather appreciate them, actually; they weave pretty webs, they eat mosquitoes and other nasty insects, they do a world of good in the garden, keeping all the little bugs who feast on our roses and other flowers at bay, and they're really very harmless to us.

Still, I wouldn't want them crawling all over me. :)

There is no logic behind phobias, and I don't think I'll ever "love" spiders
At least I force myself to look at them in pictures now...it's a step

Oh, you have arachnophobia? That's another cup of tea entirely. Sorry to hear it, it must be apain in the ass. :/
