The device connects you to a network of other people with similar devices. Whatever you write on it, speak into it, or point it at will be shared, when the appropriate function is enabled.

Yes! Yes, have you heard of him? Howl, or Wizard Jenkins, or Pendragon, or - oh bother, who knows what other names that man's gone by. Really, he makes things so difficult for everyone else.

Unfortunately, I've never met or even heard of someone who actually called themselves a wizard; although I've met a wide enough variety of people with some kind of magical power to find your last statement very easy to believe.
