DARPA is now funding research into plasma disruption through EM fields and acoustics, or more simply put, containing and suppressing fire (which is just a cold form of plasma) with electric fields and sound.

wasn't acoustic fire control tried in the late 80s (well, last real efforts put into it for commercializing at least.)
makes me think of a Reubens Tube

Yeah, but this is more focused on extending our understanding of plasma manipulation, and the way electrical fields and sound vibration affects it.
