Turns out, your cells don't die after 4 minutes of oxygen deprivation. In fact, they don't die for hours. What kills the cells after four minutes is restoring oxygen to them, which triggers the same cell-death process that is used by the body to kill off cancer cells. Ain't it, though??? All those people they pronounce "dead" are really still alive, we just don't have any way to revive them! Scary, huh? It'll be very interesting once they come up with an easy way to bring them back. You'll get people who were poisoned / stabbed / shot / etc. able to be brought back. Think about that: someone gets shot to death, but help arrives within an hour or two, so they get patched up, re-inflated with blood, and brought back. Really tweaks a big part how we view the world now, doesn't it? You'll have to really make sure someone's dead, in other words mainly damaging or destroying their brain, if you're going to actually kill someone.
