Rural Limbo's COLD

Dec 18, 2008 23:59

And yes, because the term "Limbo" is in the Subject, we have to use the Itsuki picture.

In the last two days I believe we've gotten about six inches of snow.  And it's sleeting tonight.

And you know what the one BIG thing I forgot at the dorm was?  Snow boots.  Believe me, I tried breaking back in on Sunday before leaving KC.  Oh well, one of my ( Read more... )

This boots thing? Totally fair. Exactly what I did. I mean, in my case it's more that I don't have working snowboots if the snow is at all wet, because mine leak. But I still do the same thing, even from my most terrifying younger sister, because that is simply what happens when you don't keep track of your things.

Doesn't "abba" mean "grandfather" in some language? Or "dad"? I'm just wondering. You're confusing the poor thing on gender already.

I like Renault. She was good at the Main Character clause. Good times.

Did Guns N' Roses do "Sympathy for the Devil"? I shall investigate this.

Luckily my regular footwear in wetter weather is a pair of combat boots. I'm just not sure, because they lace up, how moisture-resistant they'll be if I have to tramp through any snow banks. Then Sister's boots might be taken.

"Abu" is Arabic for "father," I know. Though if River should know any Arabic it ought to be "Intifada" ("shaking off") for all the times I've said it (the First Intifada was the case study I used in a paper on Palestinian nationalism for my Middle Eastern class).

Last of the Wine's pretty good so far. Yesterday I read a chapter where our protagonist befriends a bath house slave who slips off to listen to Sokrates when he can. By the end of the chapter some affluent guy in their circle buys his freedom. The chapter ends saying that when Phaedo (the freed prostitute) mingled with former clients, he "was strict in not giving them away, saying that every trade has its ethic. But sometimes, when a self-important citizen was holding forth in the Agora, condemning foreign luxury or wondering what young men ( ... )

I'm starting to think the "aba" thing must've been in a fantasy novel or movie, because I've convinced myself that it's for real, but Google tells me nothing except for some weird "abba/father" Catholic thing that is not it.

I want a Middle Eastern class. *is jealous* I almost got one this coming semester, but I couldn't fit it.

PHAEDO KNOWS WHAT YOU GOT HIM FOR CHRISTMAS, is all I can say.

Ooh. Oops. I thought I'd seen Guns N' Roses in connection with "SftD". Ah well. I don't actually know either of the groups at all, so I can't pass judgment, but I am very fond of that one song. Kind of just because it was at the end of IwtV, yeah, but also because it's an interesting song.

I actually wrote Itsuki for the first time ^^ So far he's just one of the upstairs neighbors who make a lot of noise (the other one is, they presume, a schizophrenic--but it's okay, he's on meds). I'm thinking of debuting Sensui in the next chapter, debating something like utilitarian ethics with someone, haha.
