Oh-ho, an interesting (though suspected) discovery...

In an e-mail from a writer I've been beta-ing:

"I believe in the immutible truth of right and wrong.  SSA is not the same as incest but both are wrong.   There are many reasons, but also because ultimately, they enslave the person committing the acts.  I believe in the immortal soul, and do not wish to see ANYONE'S immortal soul in jeopardy.   You' ( Read more... )

DAMN...

Does she write slash? If so, she's a fucking hypocrite.

Also, way to spell "immutable". And how does loving somenoe of teh same sex "enslave" you? *shrugs*

You should tell her you're bi, and, if she objects, tell her that most of the BNF's that would beta her fics in YYH fandom are GLBTQ. :P

Nah, she doesn't write slash (otherwise I'd have reamed her a new one.)

This is what I had to say on the matter in my reply:

"Funny, I don't feel like an enslaved soul. (Your beta, by the way, is an out-and-proud bisexual. Who's not hedonism embodied. And is religious. I must be a walking paradox). But whatever; I'm able to function alongside ideological isolationists--though I'll be upright honest when I say that I hate that "hate the sin, love the sinner" line because in this context it's little more than hyper-pretentious b.s.

"However, one's views are one's views and I'm not usually inclined to play the Crusader. Just don't try going Sensui on me, because I am a veteran of ideological warfare ^^ (Haha, there we go: Itsuki: hate the sin, love the sinner *embodied*, man.)"

Yes, I applied her ideology to a canonical YYH gay couple. She writes fanfiction, so I think said comparison can be in play. We'll see how it goes from there. (I was serious about the veteran of ideological warfare thing, too. I've basically ( ... )

??? The first sentence told me all I needed to know. The rest of it just fit right along with it.

I think you are less of a paradox than the people who preach love and virtue and then crush others to achieve it.

I've been reading Unkempt Thoughts and I kinda want to write a book of aphorisms myself. Here's one:

The penitent is guilty of hubris. How can every one of them be one of the biggest sinners in the world?

--Seriously: you're taking away the Nazis' reputations, you selfish dramatic bastards!

I like it. It reminds me of a line in a song. Weird Al Yankovic has a song called "Amish Paradise." One of the lines goes:

"Think you"re really righteous? Think you're pure at heart? Well I know I'm a million times as humble as thou art!"
