So now that I have a LiveJournal account, I suppose I should write something. Well, I work in a cube by day, doing boring but useful things, and at night and on the weekends, I paint, do martial arts, hike and participate in a variety of other outdoor activities, depending on the season. Technically I do not have time to read or write fan fiction,

But beyond all that, you sound like exactly my kind of person. I have the sudden urge to drag you to conventions and movies and shopping malls. (The later mostly for the sake of people-watching and/or visiting the more interesting, less pop-culture infested stores.)
Additionally, have you read any Robin McKinley? Your description of books you like to read makes me think you'd like her work. Then again, she's my favorite author - I think everyone would like her work, so long as they enjoy fantasy/fiction - so I may be a tad biased.

I LOVE Robin McKinley. She was my favorite author for years. (She's still way up there). You sound like my kind of person too. My nerdier friends have this terrible tendancy to move to California or other distant Western States. This, of course means I currently don't have anyone to do conventions with, as all my remaining friends are more on the go for pizza or a hike wavelength. (I mean nerdy in the most affectionate possible way, BTW.) I once spoke a small amount of Elvish, and currently study sword fighting, so I'm pretty hardcore nerd myself.
If you're in my area, we should really hang out.
Oh, and Patricia Briggs is great. She started out with traditional fantasy novels, then started doing urban fantasy. You might also like Karen Chance, Linnea Sinclair or Kresley Cole (Sinclair is SciFi, Cole is technically paranormal romance, but they're funny and smart.)

And YAY, another Robin McKinkley fan!
So... you anywhere near Nebraska? XD
On the bright side, my state is smack-dab in the middle of the country, so I'm not THAT far from anybody in particular. On the down side, nobody on the internet ever seems to live here. :P

I think that as the major airline flies, Dublin is actually closer to me than Nebraska. I'm afraid that statistically, internet nerds are probably a lot more likely to cluster in larger cities like the one I call home.
