So now that I have a LiveJournal account, I suppose I should write something. Well, I work in a cube by day, doing boring but useful things, and at night and on the weekends, I paint, do martial arts, hike and participate in a variety of other outdoor activities, depending on the season. Technically I do not have time to read or write fan fiction, but I do it anyway. Also lots of novels, though not as many now that there's an internet. Reading, not writing.
I am old enough to remember the original Transformers cartoon series, but I've moved on enough to acknowledge that the writing, acting and animation were, well, not the best. I tend to go through phases with fandoms, as I read everything that I like, and everything left over seems to be written by eager fourteen year olds. I was one of those once, so I do try not to judge. I think I'm quite glad that I didn't know about fan fiction back when I was a huuuge Lord of the Rings fan. That would have been embarrassing, though I suspect that it was a quieter, nerdier group back before the movies. In other words, it was populated by my people.
I love Science Blogs. I find religious dogmatism fascinating yet terrifying. I think the best and most comprehensive history book I have encountered recently is The Cartoon History of the Universe by Larry Gonick. Truly a work of genius.
I like trashy novels with vampires, dragons and spaceships, but only if the main character is not a painful Mary Sue. Nuff said on that one, though I am still sad that Laurell K Hamilton jumped the crazy shark after book 6. Alas. Go read Patricia Briggs instead, she's terrific.
