I have asked our survivalist neighbor, Commander Dave, if he can recommend a firearm that meets your specifications. I may have quoted the Warren Ellis bit to him...we'll see if it frightens him or makes him want to try to recruit me to the NRA.

What is it with animals forming cross-species friendships lately? I thought the dog and elephant were pretty cool. They should be a book series on getting along with people who are different. Oh! We can call it, "Tolerance: Don't Fuck it Up."

Hooray! I feel bad for having to specify an American brand, but that's the way it has to be for the storyline. If he has anything to say about other brands, I am totally open to hearing that as well. And hey, if you join the NRA, you can keep those pesky theater kids in line.

According to Commander Dave, "Technically, it is not the handgun that meets the requirement, but the ammo within the gun. The gun is merely a lauch tube. Having said that...that degree of overkill will be achieved with the Desert Eagle .50 cal. Do a youtube search of desert eagle and enjoy the show! If you need a more period specific specimen, let me know."

I see that's already been recommended and discounted above because it's made in Israel, but at least you can find some other American-made .50 cal handguns here (mostly I linked here because that night shot looks badass).

Huh, that makes a lot of sense. I love knowledge! No, period shouldn't matter too much. I'm beginning to think I should just try to find a reason the character could be carrying something else.

...whatever gun you pick, if you put hollowpoint ammo in it, it will cause massive damage of the making-someone's-head-explode-like-a-sledgehammer-to-a-watermelon kind. (they're also kind of illegal, but I don't know if that would matter or not)

Interesting! Meshes with someone's answer upthread, who told me it's all about the ammo. Fortunately, no heads are being exploded. Just, uh, walls. And spiders that happen to be on the walls.
