Torchwood: 1x06 and 1x07 + Buffy 8x12

Mar 11, 2008 09:36

Against my better judgement, I'm going back and watching all the S1 Torchwood episodes I skipped because, frankly, I thought it was bad. So, last night I watched "Countrycide" and "Greeks Bearing Gifts" and I still think it's bad, but not that bad. ( Random thoughts: )

tv: buffy, tv: torchwood

I don't get the Gwen/Owen either. Ew. I've started liking Owen in s2, but did not find him at all compelling in s1. I did like countrycide though, mostly because Tosh and Ianto were cool, though I resented a little that it made me like Jack for a bit (SHOTGUN, okay?). Whereas Gwen and Owen, wtf? Owen kept saying "i'm gonna shoot you, i'm gonna shoot you" and then NOT DOING IT. Argh.

Well, Tosh are Ianto are always cool, even when they're stupid and incompetent.

I wondered about the guns. I guess they wanted Jack to save the day, but I wonder how this particular team was selected. I mean, I understand the reluctance to shoot a human being, particularly a doctor's reluctance, BUT...you can take a person down without killing him! As Jack demonstrated. Oy, Owen.

Well, I sort of don't think you should. I think if you are going to draw a gun, you have to mean to kill someone with it. Otherwise you shouldn't draw it in the first place. But that aside, once the bad guys have proven that THEY ARE GOING TO KILL AND EAT YOU, just shoot 'em. Seriously. Waving it around wasn't making them stop, and they won't take you seriously if you don't, you know, act on your threats!

Obviously, in Owen's situation, shooting to kill would have been the smart thing to do. But in real life, I disagree. I'm just saying. I don't want to get into a debate about guns, except as they pertain to fictional characters.

Torchwood S1 was frustrating because it was so uneven. It didn't click for me until the last four episodes. S2 is much better.

Of the episodes I've seen, I only liked "Captain Jack Harkness," and even that had some major problems. But yeah, S2 is much better.

I am very glad to hear that you are not moving to Utah. I do not think you would be very happy there!

I think I've somehow blocked Season 1 from my memory... I remember bits and pieces (and vague summaries for episodes like "Countrycide", but mostly 'cause that one stood out on the creep factor), but over all, yes, Season 2 is MUCH, MUCH better. I really didn't like Owen in S1 so I was kind of resistant to liking him this season, but then Adam dropped by and it was like "oh, look, he can be adorable!"

If it hasn't been done by the time I get home from work, I'll try and whip up a Willow/Tosh manip. 'Cause yeah, they would be adorable together.

He's just MEAN in S1. I mean, there's nothing really attractive about, physically or otherwise. There are likeable assholes. S1!Owen isn't one. But then he does become more human in S2. I still don't understand Tosh's attraction, though.

A Tosh/Willow manip would be lovely! Yay!

finding good pics of Tosh is proving more difficult than I thought it would be... =/

Also, randomly, I don't think the motives were the same in Countrycide and Meat at all. In Meat I thought it was pretty clear, really. They wanted to make a lot of money off an animal. It was horrible of course, but they weren't specifically doing it TO be evil, if that makes sense.

I misphrased that. I meant the writers' motives was to show humankind's capability for inexplicable cruelty.
