Torchwood: 1x06 and 1x07 + Buffy 8x12

Against my better judgement, I'm going back and watching all the S1 Torchwood episodes I skipped because, frankly, I thought it was bad. So, last night I watched "Countrycide" and "Greeks Bearing Gifts" and I still think it's bad, but not that bad.

"Countrycide" reminded me of "Meat" from S2 in that the villains (humans) and their motives (inexplicable/evil) were the same. "Meat" was more effective, partly because the writing was better, partly because Rhys was involved, partly because it was more believable despite the alien whale. "Countrycide" was just kind of gross (and Gwen - what were you thinking? Wanting to understand is all well and good, but you're not a psychiatrist). I liked Owen's bitching about the country.

"Greeks Bearing Gifts." Oh, Tosh, Tosh. Honey, WHAT do you see in Owen? He's mean to you. Beauty's in the eye of the beholder, sure, but he's by far the least pretty person in Torchwood. At this point, he's not that interesting. So what's the attraction, sweetie? You could do SO much better. I know you're not into girls (well, not usually) but I have two words for you: Willow Rosenberg. I know, wrong fandom. But you two would make THE most adorable couple! Give it some thought. You're my favorite character, Tosh, and I hate seeing you lonely and unhappy.

Speaking of women inexplicably drawn to Owen... Gwen?? What were you thinking. YOU HAVE RHYS.

Which, actually, isn't a bad segue into my thoughts on Buffy: Season 8, Issue 12:

So, Buffy/Satsu. For one night, anyway. Um. No objections, and actually, I like the way Buffy handled the inevitable "okay, what now?" Though I doubt this will help Satsu get over Buffy.

I like this issue. The beginning was fun, a little bittersweet, and while I'm not always a fan of the recurring villain (*cough*Warren*cough*), I'd wondered what became of Count Dracula. (Though I'm not happy to see Xander fall under his influence so quickly. Surely he's built up some resistance since the last time.)

It's too bad Leah (I think that's the name of the red-haired Scottish Slayer) wasn't keeping watch; she might have known there aren't any wolves in Scotland. (I remember reading that a while back. Please correct me if I'm wrong.)

But the Xander/Renee flirting was sweet.

Oh, and I'm not moving to Utah.
