I agree with you about Dumbles; I also think that, to Rowling, the fact that she always saw him as gay was no big deal to her-that is pretty cool, in my opinion.

I honestly don't get the controversy. Dumbledore's sexuality, whether het, gay or bi, isn't really relevant to the story Rowling was trying to tell. Yes, she focused on the (heterosexual) relationships of the trio, but that was because it's Harry's story and those relationships were ongoing and current. The last few books were long enough without adding in extraneous material about Dumbledore's sex life from sixty years ago or more.
