I love that he doesn't leave, even when that seems more pragmatic. I love the things he's worried about. I just want to smish Alex (but Darwin's there first).

Alex is vulnerable under the tough (very thin) veneer, but it's ok. He's safe with Darwin. I feel bad for Darwin's fears, but they're realistic-none of them are only mutants, and they do live in a social context.

I've been wanting to explore Darwin's thoughts about the Civil Rights Movement, Stonewall, and other things that were going on at the time. I only touched on them here, but they're on my mind, so ... some day.
I love protective!Darwin. It seems like such a natural thing for him to be, because of his mutation. Alex feels very safe with him, not just in the sense that he knows Darwin will look out for him, but in the sense that he feels comfortable talking about his anxieties.
