I always want to take on some of their childhood stuff but it's so freaking hard. I like it when someone else does it well for me so I get to just reap the benefits. ;) This was stark and painful and really well done, and also made me cry, which is probably good because it washed out whatever was making my contact itchy. ;)

Lol, that's awesome. Glad I was able to help. :)

And I'm really glad you liked this story. Sam Kirk kind of took over my brain for a while. I find I like writing from a kid's POV occasionally. They have complicated thoughts, but their limited world-view means they often express themselves very directly. Thank you so much!

This is stark and evocative and painful and lovely.

There's so much pain and resentment and guilt that I'm impressed it doesn't completely overwhelm the love.

Thank you. :)

I think Jim is naturally a loving person; now that Sam realizes that, he has to earn his trust again. Oh, boys.

Jesus, I feel completely shredded after reading this. I think you broke my heart at least once in every single section. *reaches for tissues* I had never thought about how George's last transmission would read to his other son, but your interpretation makes perfect sense. *hugs Sam hard* Gorgeous, heart-wrenching fic.

Thank you so much. :)

I was a little concerned that Sam would come across as unsympathetic, even though I kind of love him and his angst. I'm so glad he came across as believable and hug-worthy.

This was beautifully done. I love writers who explore the supporting characters, recognizing that for every hero's epic journey of destiny, a whole lot of other people are getting burnt up in their wake. Poor Sam, his reactions are so understandable in each episode and yet leave him with this mountain of guilt.

Thank you so much. I'm so glad Sam came across as realistic. It's hard when you have so little to go on, but it can be a fun challenge too.
