Tip I learned today: when LJ fails to post an entry or comment, the Back button doesn't help because going back either gives you a blank text field or a blank "down" page. But, you can stay on the failed-post screen and wait a bit, then "reload" - you will get the "your data will be retransmitted" and then if the site is up now, the post will go through. Just don't close the tab with the error in it and don't go back. Keep trying reload, or open another tab so you can check of LJ is back.
