Jo Harvelle!

day 1,

song dedication

The very first time I heard this song was after "Abandon All Hope" had aired and it immediately reminded me of the episode and of Jo Harvelle.  The soft haunting lyrics speaking of life and love lost, filling you with a sense of regret and sadness.  Although Pearl Jam obviously didn't write this song for a character from Supernatural, you can see how it could easily be a tribute to Jo, her complicated dynamic with Dean, and the tragic way she and her mother died.

Just Breathe by Pearl Jam

Yes, I understand that every life must end, aw-huh...
As we sit alone, I know someday we must go, aw-huh...
Oh I'm a lucky man, to count on both hands
The ones I love...

Some folks just have one,
Yeah, others, just have none, uh-huh...

Stay with me...
Let's just breathe.

Practiced are my sins,
Never gonna let me win, aw-huh...
Under everything, just another human being, aw-huh...
Yeah, I don't wanna hurt, there's so much in the world
To make me bleed.

Stay with me...
You're all I see.

Did I say that I need you?
Did I say that I want you?
Oh, if I didn't I'm a fool you see...
No one knows this more than me.
As I come clean.

I wonder every day
As I look upon your face, aw-huh...
Everything you gave
And nothing you would take, aw-huh...
Nothing you would take
Everything you gave...

Did I say that I need you?
Oh, did I say that I want you?
Oh, if I didn't I'm a fool you see...
No one knows this more than me.
As I come clean, ah-ah...

Nothing you would take...
Everything you gave.
Love you til I die...
Meet you on the other side.

The Girl You Would've Married by longsufferingly

It's a fairy tale somewhere: boy meets girl, girl saves herself, happily ever after.

But you've always tended to the more traditional fairy tales. The one where the girl dissolves, or gets ripped to shreds, and you don't love her enough to bring her back.

Sorry my Day 1 theme is so melancholy, will try for more upbeat tomorrow! :)
