Obama likes comics. He collects them. He specifically mentioned Spider-Man, so the comic decided to return the favor and feature him in an upcoming edition. Therein Spidey saves Obama on inauguration day from being replaced by an evil impostor. Obama appears on the cover, smiling and giving the thumbs-up, while behind him Spidey hangs upside down

Well, I can't speak for this issue but SM hasn't been selling so well since the MJ retcon....

Spider-Man is no longer married to Mary-Jane. He made a deal with the devil (something SM would never really do) to save the life of Aunt May. In the process their marriage was erased.

It made a lot of fans mad.
